Removal 

in this work, i did a memory drawing of my family and the view of Hong Kong (as i also did this in one of the experiment). However, i erased the most symbolic buildings in Hong Kong, so when someone is looking at this, they won’t notice where is this place. and i also did a drawing of my family - mum, dad and bro, but if i erased they identities, you might think they are not even related to me. thus, sometimes removal might mean a lot. if you erased something, it could be a whole new set of meaning. 

as i mention above, this is a memory drawing. the image in my head start getting blurry and eventually being removed someday. therefore, before it get erased, i draw to remember it.

Paradoxes of Paradoxes

Paradoxes of Paradoxes explores the pounding duality between creation and destruction. By exploring the metaphysical and physical boundaries of this work, it has enabled me to reflect such complex binary ideologies such as life/death, construction/destruction and success/failure.

To further strengthen my concept,  I utilised the shape of a hand created from wax to demonstrate the paradoxical function of hands. Whilst hands can emit the emotion of comfort and care, alternatively, it can also disassemble and destroy the exact same things are to be nurtured for. Commenting on its fragility only meant the realisation of its immense power of destruction.

Circling around the notion of erasure, Paradoxes of Paradoxes directly reflects the nature of erasure through the utilisation of hands that can erase pain or erase comfort.

A3, Final Work 1 Process Page - Paradox of Paradoxes 

Influenced by a scene of Game of Thrones and their obligatory use of candles to set a gothic medieval atmosphere triggered the use of use wax as new materials to experiment with. 

Process of creating wax hands

1. Cut 2 large candles into small chunks whilst removing the wick.

2. Pour chunks into small saucepan or pot and boil until dissolved into oil. (Caution: very hot wax). Allow hot wax to cool for 20-25mins until thin layer forms. 

3. Prepare a medium sized container and fill with water. 

4. Carefully dip a finger to check temperature. Only place entire hand when temperature is suitable. 

5. Cover selected mould hand with handcream/lotion on skin without rubbing it in, leaving white marks present. 

6. Dip hand in wax and alternate to dip in water. 

7. Repeat 8-10 times until thick white layer forms on hand.

8. After the dipping process, slowly remove new wax cast from hand by sliding wrist, hand then fingers out of cast. 

9. Dip cast in water to provide solid form after creation. 

Although the thumb and wax parts fell off during the final process, I embraced its broken form as it strengthened my concept of creation and destruction. 

I was extremely pleased with the outcome of the experiment as it enabled me to play around with new materials.
