Without having a specific or particular aim with Final Work 2, I decided to play with ice left over in my cup and wondered what I could create with crystallised forms of liquid.
Stemming from Final Work 1, I brainstormed what could further explore my concept through a different medium with different concepts whilst revolving around the idea of erasure. Browsing through Pinterest, recent news articles and being heavily inspired by the recent cold temperature in Sydney, I ventured out to create ice sculptures.
1. Fill latex gloves with water.
2. Tie ends the ensure water does not leak.
3. Freeze overnight (12hours) for a solid ice sculpture.
4. Using scissors, cut end of knot and rip open remaining latex on ice hand.
Stemming off from Week 12′s topic and the role of art in public spaces, I wanted to produce a work that commented on the catastrophic effects of global warming. Whilst contemplating on whether I should carry on with a typical, well-known topic, already carried out by World Wildlife Fund's installation Melting Men, I disconnected from my original idea.
To create 3 consistent final works of erasure, I utilised the shape of hands to illustrate my new concept which I was in the process of formulating.
This art practice made me realise the creativity of experiment driven practices, allowing me to discover new ideas from my original preconceived thoughts.
