TW: Domestic abuse, rape
strawberryr reblogged your post: I live in a world where I have difficulty imagining a heterosexual relationship where there is not physical violence perpetuated by the man.
hope what I say doesn’t come off as mean, but I am seriously thinking you have never seen a healthy relationship. Not...
I just know from personal experience that not only my own relationships (excluding the one I am in currently) but the relationships of my friends as well have resulted in abuse, usually perpetuated by the male counterpart. It's not typically physical either. Usually it's psychological manipulation, inferiority complexes, severe jealousy, etc.
I can't say a single one of my girl friends has ever told me their boyfriend hits them.
I can name several who have told me their boyfriend threatened to kill himself based on something my girl friend said or did.
I also know that most rape victims are raped by someone they know, and in many situations it's their boyfriends or husbands that commit this.
I've had grown men use physically threatening and verbally threatening messages to try and come on to me when I'm attempting to do my job.
And yes, I'm very aware that there are heterosexual couples that are not violent or hateful towards each other. For me, however, until my current boyfriend and I got together, it was nearly impossible for me to imagine a relationship where I did not experience some kind of abuse, be it psychological or physical, against me. At one point I had decided it was just something I had to "deal with", and that it was normal for every relationship to reach that point.
Perhaps it's because I'm young, as are the males in my group of interest, and with "hormones" and whatnot, emotions run wild in youth and it causes people to act according to them, even though it may not be right. But either way, I know in my health classes that girls were always taught how to fend off an attacker. Not once were the boys ever told (after kindergarten that is), "You are not to attack or abuse a woman or any other human being."
I assume that you've been hurt greatly by someone who you once trusted wholly.
Yes, yes I have. Quite a few times, actually.
Lol TRUST AND COMMITMENT ISSUES NBD I'LL JUST LIVE WITH 40 CATS WHO GIVES A FUCK
