Been a hot second since I made a post!
Honestly, I think I've reached an acceptance-stage about the portrayal of the Jedi in Star Wars. In that: I am ok with both interpretations of their morality (or lack thereof), and great storytelling has come out of them both.
It's ok for there to be a version of Star Wars that treats them as the ultimate force of good and who weren't at all to blame for the events of the prequels/the fate of Anakin (aka George Lucas' original vision) AND the version of Star Wars that has them as a well-intentioned but very problematic order, who became out-of-touch and morally compromised, and are in dire need of reform (aka the current canon).
There's not much use whinging about Lucas' original vision being eclipsed nowadays, when the modern day perspective on the Jedi clearly resonates far more with the majority of audiences. And that's allowed the saga to expand and grow in its mythology, and build a more nuanced story, which is also what modern audiences tend to prefer. I think in a lot of ways, this becomes an inevitability for any large-scale fictional universe, as the simple fairy tale morality can only let you do so much with worldbuilding. It happened to Star Trek too.
At the end of the day, it's a myth. And myths change all the time. It's ok. We can just enjoy the parts we like and ignore the rest. Star Wars is forever, and our personal connection to it is what matters most.
