Finding Shelter || Self-para
The bright, morning sun shone down brightly on Serena as she walked casually through the forest. Rays of sunshine broke through the canopy of branches and lit up the uneven path. Birds chirped happily, insects buzzed and animals rustled.
Serena felt out of place here. The whole island was so in sync with its self. She felt as though she was intruding on some vip party. Carefully and lightly, Serena made her way through the jungle, towards her destination. It was a small place she found earlier that week.
Serena sighed contently as she broke through the trees and into the clearing. The sound of running water filled her ears as she took in her own little paradise. It was beautiful. Serena didn't know how she stumbled across this place, but she was glad she had. It was a pool of water in the middle of a clearing made up of the greenest grass Serena had ever seen. There was, not a water fall per say, but water running down the tall, cliff like, wall of rocks from the, what she guessed to be, spring on top.
Setting off at a jog, Serena headed down the slight hill, towards the water. The surface glistened in the sun, unmoving apart from the slight ripples from tiny insects. She unshouldered her small bag, placing it down on the ground, before slipping off her clothes and folding them neatly next to it. She tied her hair back with her trusty hairband before diving into the water.
The cold water contrasted with the humid air, but it felt nice on Serena's skin. She resurfaced and just floated for a while, looking up at the crystal blue sky. Unlike some people on the island, Serena was actually enjoying her time here. What wasn't there to enjoy? The place was beautiful, the people were hot and the prize money was worth fighting for. Of course, she wanted to win, but in the end, it was the experience Serena was here for.
An experience she wouldn't have had if she hadn't had made that decision a couple of years back. Yes, it was wrong of her. It was Logan's child too, but Serena wasn't ready. She was only sixteen after all. Though, they could have raised a child together. They were both in love. No. She was in love. He didn't love her. How could he? How could he possibly love her the way she loved him when he had cheated on her?
No. She shouldn't be thinking about that. She was here and he wasn't. Hopefully, she would never see him again. Serena turned her head to the side slightly, noticing she was getting closer to the waterfall, when she spotted it.
Excited, Serena swam under the falling water and emerged into what she would make her future home. It was a cave that could fit up to two people in. Aswell as a fire. Exploring her new discovery, Serena observed that it went back quite far and that there was away into it with out getting wet.
With ideas flooding through her head, Serena swam back to the bank where she left her bag. She lifted herself out of the water elegantly, slipped back on her shoes, then rummaged through her bag. Once she had found what she was looking for, her trusty knife, she stuffed her clothes in, pulled her bag back on to her back and headed up towards the trees. She eyed them all closely, choosing which one had the biggest leaves, before discarding her bag once more, placing the knife between her teeth and skilfully climbed the tree. When she was in a potion which made her feel comfortable, she began cutting off leaves, making a large pile att the tree trunk.
Once she had finished her task, she gathered her things and headed back to the cave. Once inside, she arranged the leaves into position then tested them out. Yes, she thought as she stared up at the cavern roof, this will do nicely as a bed. The next task for Serena now, was who to tell about her secret place.
