Finding Your Roots

A PMD-inspired nuzlocke comic of Pokemon Omega Ruby

Cedar the mudkip has always been an outcast, but she never let it get her down. Instead of swimming with her peers, she loves to play in the dirt and mud. She wants to be more connected with her earthen roots, but her tribe only sees themselves as water elementals, and everyone she knows sees earth pokemon as silly and useless. Cedar's hopes of meeting like-minded pokemon seem slim, until the day a mysterious desert egg pops up in her village. Upon setting out to bring the egg home, Cedar will embark on a life-changing journey where she'll meet new friends, face villains and hardship, and find roots she never knew she had.

French Canadian and Acadian sources for folklore, legends, folk remedies, and history in English

I am forever thankful that my family spoke French to me at home, and that I got to grow up with it. It helped me get a broader access to my own culture's primary and secondary sources. I can only imagine the pain of not having that linguistic tool and wanting to know more about your roots. To help my fellow cousins, here's some good sources you can explore to learn about your culture in English :) Most of the sources below look historical, or community specific, but that's okay. What's important is reading them, and gleaning folk practices from what you read. And if any of these books have bibliographies, look into the titles they have there too! You never know what gems you'll find. When in doubt, or if you can't find anything specific, get help from any university librarian. Even if you're not a student and just have a local public library card, they can still help you find the materials you're looking for! And in most university libraries, you can order in books from other libraries that specialize in your topic if your local one is a bit dry.
