Since reading Saving Lives, I've shipped Heather Chandler with Betty Finn. It's just such a cute opposite pairing!!!! Thank you for bringing this into my life 😊
AH! Thank you for reminding me about my girls, I love them. I wish I had more time, because I wanted to write something about the road trip they all took that summer, and that would have focused more on Heather and Betty’s relationship than JD and Veronica’s, because they’re less established and therefore there’s more going on with them. Since I almost certainly won’t have time for that, here’s some of my headcanons for them!
Heather and Betty went to prom together, both of them wore dresses and got each other flowers. If anyone asked, they just said no one asked them so they went as friends. Veronica and Heather Duke already knew what was up (Betty told Veronica, Duke figured it out because she’s not straight either). Heather McNamara figured out at prom, because she’s not blind and she knows what a crush looks like. JD is oblivious.
On the road trip, Heather starts to initiate sex, and Betty asks if she’s sure she wants to. This is the first time anyone has every actually asked Heather that, and it really hits her hard. They end up talking and cuddling for the rest of the night (which both of them are happier about). Betty really helps Heather get over her intimacy issues, and Heather builds Betty’s confidence (clumsily at first, but she gets better).
They have a really great relationship for the whole summer, and they try to make the long distance work when they go to college, but it’s just too hard. They break up but still call each other to talk frequently and they make a point of seeing each other whenever they can. Even though they aren’t together, they’re both really important to each other.
