Tips to Make your Carpooling Experience Successful

Carpooling can be a great time saver and money saver for many people. However, when you get a carpool group set up, there are some things you need to keep in mind to have a successful carpooling experience and enjoy it. But you don’t know what to do, then don’t worry. We are here to help.

Here are some do’s and don’ts of carpooling to keep in mind.

DO’S

Communicate with Fellow Carpoolers

Communication is the key to successful carpooling. Communicate effectively and frequently with your fellow carpoolers. If you are going to be a few minutes late, ensure you call them and let them know, but don’t make it a habit. If something happens and you can’t carpool at all on that given day, be sure you notify all the members in your carpool and ensure that you tell them early so that they can carpool schedule or make other arrangements. Keep Safety in Mind

Safety is of utmost importance when ride sharing. As a rider, you should pay attention to the road and are not texting or talking on the phone while driving. As a passenger, you need to create a safe environment for everyone else in the car. Do not distract the driver and don’t talk loudly on the phone as it can bother fellow co-travellers.

Keep your Vehicle Clean

Keep your vehicle clean and smelling good so that people want to sit and enjoy their ride as nothing is worse than being tuck for an hour in a dirty smelly car. In addition to this, ensure that your vehicle is well maintained as a poorly maintained car can consume more fuel and increase the cost of carpooling. A well maintained and clean car will ensure safe, reliable and comfortable ride which is better for the environment as well.

Respect the Rules

Respect any and all the rules of carpool travel that has been agreed upon such as smoking, eating, beverages, music, pets and so on. Refrain from doing such things that annoy your co-travellers.

Make a Habit of Being Late

Once in a while, it’s ok that you get late by a few minutes as your co-travellers can wait for that much time. However, getting late every day is rude and disrespectful for your fellow carpoolers. Ensure that you reach on time and if getting late call them to tell.

Ask to Make Extra Stops

Making extra stops along the route can frustrate the co-travellers. If you didn’t eat breakfast that is your fault and you shouldn’t ask your carpool to make an extra stop so that you can grab something to eat. The ride-share is set up to help everyone with their commute and save time, not personal errands.

Talk Loudly on the Phone

Ensure that when you are in a carpool, do not talk loudly on the phone or stay on the phone the entire time or have long-winded conversations. This can distract the rider and is rude to others in the car as they can’t freely talk to each other as they may want.

Bring Up Controversial Topics

When you are carpooling, ensure that you do not bring up controversial topics like religion, politics and similar highly opinionated topics. Unless you know the group well and are used to big topic debates avoid controversial topics as it can sour the relation and nobody will enjoy the ride.
