Finlay Donovan Knocks 'Em Dead by Elle Cosimano is her follow-up novel to the wildly hilarious Finlay Donovan is Killing It.. "Finlay is again struggling to finish her next novel and to keep her head above water as a single mom of two. She does have her live-in nanny and confidant, Vero, to rely on. She discovers in an online women's forum that someone wants her ex-husband dead. As much as she dislikes him, she doesn't want her children to be without their father. Vero is keeping secrets and Detective Nick is trying to get back into her life. Finlay just wants to finish her book and find the killer without anyone getting killed." I love the character of Finlay. We can all relate to those moments where life is overwhelming - the car won't work, the checking account is low, and life is just stressful. But Finlay pushes through all of her problems (with Vero's help) and finds a way to make things work. And EC puts her in some crazy situations. There are so many hilarious moments here - especially with Carl. 😳😂 I like that Cosimano gives us more depth with these characters. It's great to find out more about Vero and Julian. Another great story from Cosimano. Finlay Donovan has become one of my favorite fictional characters. Her ex-husband fired the nanny without telling her and this morning she sent her daughter to school with hair duct-taped to her head. A woman hears Finlay talking about her new book and thinks Finlay is a contract killer. Now Finlay finds herself tangled in a murder investigation with the contracts piling up.” Aren’t you glad when a book lives up to the buzz? Some great characters here from Cosimano. Although I would like to know what’s a wig scarf? The ex is a jerk and nobody will like him. He deserves what he gets. I enjoyed the new partnership between Finlay and Vero. Vero seems to be the go-to for unmarked bill accounting. As things continued to pile up and unravel l kept pulling for Finlay just hoping she could get ahead. Fast-paced read and great story from Cosimano. Already looking forward to the follow-up book. Finlay Donovan is Killing It by Elle Cosimano

I was given this ARC from NetGalley for my honest review:

I loved this book. This was exactly the wickedly wild page turner I need to get me out of the pandemic.

This gem is about a recently divorced Finaly Donovan whose ex is trying to get full custody of their kids. Finlay is a mystery and romance author, but her income isn’t enough to pay her rent and other bills. Therefore, there is no way she can pay for a good lawyer. But as the fates would have it, Finlay is mistaken for a hit woman while being incognito at the Panera (they banned her recently, but let's not talk about that!). A mysterious woman seated at the next booth offers Finlay enough money to turn her life around and fight to keep her kids. The catch is she has to kill a man. That’s enough details. This novel is best read with only a little knowledge of the rollercoaster of events within.

This is a crime novel that screams Netflix series. I got Good Girls, Claws, Girlfriend’s Guide to Divorce and a young Frankie and Grace vibes. Mainly I loved the main characters, especially Finlay and her nanny, Vero. Their relationship grows throughout this novel, and they simply work as friends, co-workers, and a makeshift family. I ship them in a platonic or in a romance way. I just want to read about all their adventures (good thing this is only book #1). Finlay and Vero are so likeable, I couldn’t help but root for them, even when they were doing bad things or getting into not-so-smart situations.

I am a sucker for bad moms and their girl friends living life to the fullest. I can’t wait for book two. In the meantime, I am checking out Elle Cosimano’s back list.
