Random LWA headcanon: Finneran and Nelson were roommates back when they were students at Luna Nova… and also a pair of delinquents. They’ve long since grown out of that- Finneran started taking her studies more seriously, and Nelson straightened up because she wanted to join the military- but they’re still close friends.
It’s a well-kept secret between them, and virtually nobody remembers any of this now. You’re professors at a prestigious school; you can’t have your students finding out that your teenage years were spent picking fights and causing trouble.
(Nelson’s missing tooth is pretty much the only reminder of those days. If anyone asks, she “lost it during her time with the military”– but really she just made an ill-timed joke at Finneran’s expense and, well...)
