Finnlo discussion #2 Fav Tropes

Alright I'm finally getting around to this one! Since I already went on and on about my ideas for Apprentice!Finn/Master!Kylo I'll just say that this is easily one of my favorite tropes for these two and leaves it at that. Instead I'll talk about some of my other fave tropes! ABO with Omega!Finn and Alpha!Kylo is another fave of mine mainly because of how many ideas I have for Omega!Finn (seriously there are so many ways Finn would handle being an omega, I could probably make a series of it). Someone mentioned force bonding between the two and I love that, along with the usual soul mate aus. Because who doesn't love it when two characters find out their soul mate is on the wrong side of a greater conflict. :) I'm especially fond of force bond fics because, Finn has to be force sensitive for it, and it adds to the abilities the force bond could possibly allow, like basically being telepathic with each other, or knowing where the other is in the force at all times or something. I'm not sure if someone brought this one up yet but I really love the Cat/Mouse dynamic applied to Finn and Kylo. I just really enjoy fics where Kylo is in pursuit of an escaped Finn. It's especially fun to come up with reasons for why Finn is running in the first place, there's the canon reason of course, but we could also make aus where Finn is running from their arranged marriage, Finn is actually a master thief and Kylo is the detective meant to bring him in, or again with the soul mate au, Finn tries to get as far away from Kylo in an attempt to break the bond not knowing that it will kill them both. The flexibility of the trope again is what makes me me really like it, especially with these two! : D

What do you think Finn and Kylo Ren’s relationship was like in the First Order?

Well I’m hella late to this first discussion but better late then never. :p

I like to think that Finn knew of Kylo as a sort of boogeyman that haunted the halls of the First Order and that you took commands from despite Kylo not being an official officer. Finn probably only caught glimpses of him before the the opening of TFA but tried to avoid the Knight of Ren as much as he could. You know stay out of his radar?

What Finn didn’t know, was that he was on Kylo’s radar long before the village. Kylo noticed the force is strong in Finn and decided to keep tabs on the trooper as a possible apprentice/Knight in training when he fully awakened.

That’s just my canon!verse ideas of what happened. In my dark au dark!Finn awakened in the force long before the village and because of that he was Kylo’s apprentice just before his 19th birthday (Not that they celebrate birthdays in the Order or anything but this was Luke’s age in a New Hope I believe?).

So Finn has been studying under Kylo’s wing for 5 years and Finn proves his skill goes beyond that of being the best stormtrooper around. Finn is a quick study and immediately proves his worth to Kylo through his skill alone, so by the time Finn is 23 he is the closest thing to a right hand man that Kylo has.

Some of the Knights, just like the troopers of Finn’s former squad take issue with Finn’s natural talent and resent him for it but they’d never say so to his face, especially with Kylo around.

I love the master/apprentice types of stories because of all the sexual tension that would happen during Finn and Kylo’s training scenes, can you guys imagine the sweaty Lightsaber with our boys in black tank tops 😍.

*cough* Any way, where was I…?

Oh yeah, so basically while I think canon verse!Finn would be unaware of Kylo’s near obsession with him until he defects, in my dark!Finn au where he is a Knight of Ren and Kylo’s right hand man Finn got years of training under him and could probably surpass Kylo in certain force related skill sets.
