Finnrey: first time out to eat in a restaurant (nothing fancy just a place to eat together that's not in the resistance)
“Are you sure?” Finn asks halfheartedly. Even though he knows they’re supposed to be here for a mission his eyes are already wandering around the vibrant marketplace.
“Yeah, don’t worry. I got it covered. You two should take some time off. Explore a little.” Poe catches his eye and flashes him a wink. Finn isn’t really sure what to make of that. He looks over to Rey, who is just as enraptured by the bustling world around them.
“Okay.” He says to no one - Poe is already walking away, on his way to finish their mission.
“Come on.” Rey says, taking his hand and pulling him along. Finn smiles and let her lead him. “This place is incredible! Have you ever seen anything like it?”
“No.” Finn agrees, marveling at the stalls climbing high into the sky around them, twisting and turning into complicated towers like vines.
They wander around, hand in hand for a few minutes, just marveling at the menagerie of sights, smells and sounds happening harmoniously around them. It reminds Finn a little of Maz’s place - the warmth and liveliness of it all.
Rey stops to look a table full of mechanical parts.
“We could use some of these on the Falcon.” She says enthusiastically, dropping his hand to inspect a round circuit looking thing. Finn looks at the part with distaste. He had been enjoying the warmth of her hand.
Rey starts murmuring to herself. Something about converters and couplings. Finn takes the chance to look around. He smells something really good and he wants to know where it’s coming from.
“Hey you!” Finn startles, grabbing Rey’s hand and getting ready to run. She drops whatever she was holding and moves closer to him in a protective stance. “The lovebirds.”
Finn looks up to see a frail woman with purple skin looking down at them from the stall above. He doesn’t know what species she is, but she looks old, ancient even.
“Yes, you.” She continues. “Come up here and have a meal!”
“Uh-” Finn says. He’s not sure how to respond. He looks at Rey and she shrugs. He is hungry. “We don’t have any money.” He yells back, figuring that is important information.
“It’s on the house for you two!” She smiles.
“How do we get up there?” Rey asks. The woman points to a ladder by the side of the stall they’re in front of. Rey smiles back at Finn and pulls him towards it. Finn’s heart does a little somersault.
They climb up and find themselves in a tiny room with a kitchen. There’s a table, with two chair in front of them and they take a seat, unsure of what comes next. This is definitely the place that delicious smell was coming from, Finn decides. It smells even better up close.
“Here you go.” The woman serves up a vibrant looking stew of some kind and hands them both spoons. “Dig in!”
They look at each other for a moment, before Rey shrugs and begins eating. Finn has to smile at the way shes attacking the food. From the sounds she making it must be delicious. But Finn isn’t so easily fooled. He knows Rey grew up on Jakku and who know what passed as good food there. Not that Finn had it any better on First Order bases. He takes a tentative bite.
Oh. That is pure delicious. He realizes with a start if he doesn’t get eating Rey’s gonna finish it all. He takes a deep breath and starts inhaling the stew as fast a physically possible. Rey, looks up at him and impossibly begins to eat even faster. Before the know it the bowl is scraped clean.
Finn leans back and a burp escapes.
“Sorry.” He says bashfully, embarrassed. Rey smirks at him and let out a louder, longer burp. Finn laughs. Rey turns to the woman, who has been watching them happily this entire time.
“That was amazing. The best thing I’ve ever eaten.”
“Oh, I’m glad you two enjoyed it.” She coos. “You remind me so much of my late husband and me.” She gets a distant dreamy look in her eyes.
Finn glances at Rey, only to find her looking at him just as embarrassed. They haven’t really talked about what they are.
“You know on our first date we had this very stew. You two walking down there just reminded me of it so much, I thought I should make it for you. May you have as many years as we did.”
“Thank you.” Rey says. She’s blushing hard as she says it and she can’t quite meet Finn’s eyes, but he can feel the sincerity in her voice. Finn’s whole face gets hot.
He’s about to say something when he hears blaster fire. He jumps to the edge of the stall and looks down. Poe is shooting back as he runs. He catches sight of Finn as he passes below
“I don’t have it covered!” He yells up before Finn can even ask. Finn turns back to find Rey standing.
“Time to run?” She asks, a familiar smile on her face. Finn returns it.
“Yeah.” He holds out his hand and she takes it without a second thought.
