15: What makes your OC angry?

When it comes to the myths, Hermes really doesn’t like rudeness. He just wishes people would have some common courtesy about being hosts or house-guests without having to resort to animal or mineral transfiguration. That’s a last resort kind of affair. For a ‘cannibalizing your visitors’ kind of offense.

Racist behavior is something that Hermes flat-out cannot stand. He’s a god of travelers, and when he’s in regular contact with many different cultures he learns to appreciate the good in all of them. If he’s visiting a place where he doesn’t speak much of the language, he will take the time to brush up on it and try to smooth the way for good communication. Because that’s what he does as a well-behaved guest.

This isn’t something that makes him angry so much as it’s an annoyance that he regularly targets: people who make their money at the expense of others. As a god of business, Hermes can absolutely respect people who have made a name for themselves and created a successful enterprise. Pride in one’s well-earned accomplishments is fine. What’s not okay is coveting money for money’s sake. Hermes will be all too happy to relieve you of some of that money. Whether that means requesting a spell of bad luck, giving the stock market a good kick, or literally breaking into your home or bank account depends on the day. (Hermes can always use more mischief in his life.)

Roleplaying-wise, I really don’t have any NOTPs because Hermes tends to get along with all sorts. In mythology, there’s Penelope. (Not Odysseus’ wife—another lady.) She gave birth to Pan in all his furry glory and promptly flipped the fuck out. Hermes did not approve.

I started RPing when I was 11. So basically just liking reading a lot and wanting to take a crack at the writing side of it.

♠ What’s one thing you dislike about your Muse?

He would make me uncomfortable if he struck up a conversation with me in real life. I get suspicious around incredibly friendly people.

Hiatus Notice

[[ Getting pretty busy 'round here at holiday time, so I figure now's a good a night as any to put up a semi-hiatus notice.

Work's been kicking my ass into the ground, and it's been rare lately that I have enough energy to spare for writing. Things'll slow down considerably after Christmas.

I have not forgotten about any of Hermes' threads. (Yes, even the Black Eyes one. I'll get to that one.)

[alright, question for when you get back or whenever you feel like it really; What are some things you've really wanted to RP with Hermes?]

[[ I play Hermes so god damned friendly. Which is weird as hell, because dark and twisted stuff is usually my bag.

I want to write more of Hermes as a god. As a vindictive force of nature—he’s kind compared to others in his pantheon, but he’s still been known to dish out the divine punishment now and then. And as a guide to mortals who know him, whether that means offering assistance with magic and ritual or escorting wayward souls. (It’s nearly Halloween. I do think about that sort of thing rather frequently this time of year.) ]]

The written word. Literature as an art form. Let me explain.

Hermes is a modern thinker, the way I write him. He’s adaptive, and communication is his domain. He’s watched communication become instantaneous—telegraph to telephone to radio to television to the internet. All in the space of two centuries.

Media these days is so primarily visual. Every year there are new developments in clearer screen resolution, 3D imaging, and the like. Radio is a dying art and Hermes mourns that—it’s the oratory of today and he has always been a herald.

Hermes doesn’t want to see society move on from the written word as well. It’s been the only concrete form of communication that has lasted his whole lifetime.

Language and writing were his gifts to humanity. And he doesn’t want to see those things become obsolete in any form.

People-oriented and fun-loving, they make things more fun for others by their enjoyment. Living for the moment, they love new experiences. They dislike theory and impersonal analysis. Interested in serving others. Likely to be the center of attention in social situations. Well-developed common sense and practical ability.

Hermes definitely tends to favor being street-smart over book-smart. Often-times, he’s found playing guide or advisor or peacemaker. It keeps him busy, and he craves variety.

ESFPs are generally quick to make friends, and especially good with children and animals. That’s very accurate, I think, as a god of hospitality. ]]
