Pat Stanley, Tom Bosley, and Ellen Hanley after the premiere of "Fiorello!," at the Broadhurst Theatre, November 23, 1959. The musical, about the late mayor Fiorello LaGuardia, has since become a classic. Bosley was a complete unknown at the time.

Fiorello!, Jerry Bock & Sheldon Harnick's first big hit, opened on November 23, 1959. Gypsy Rose Lee, herself the subject a recent musical, was at the premiere.
I love performing "The Very Next Man" from Fiorello! but I am truly petrified that someday I will slip up and say the original lyrics to that one bit (you know the one) and offend every-single-body listening.
“Finale” is the seventeenth and final song in the 1959 Broadway musical Fiorello! With music by Jerry Bock (The Apple Tree) and lyrics by Sheldon Harnick (Fiddler on the Roof), the book was based on the life of Fiorello H. La Guardia. The show was nominated for seven Tony Awards and won three, including a tie for Best Musical. This song features Patricia Wilson as Marie.

The photo is not of Colin Thomson, who plays famed New York City mayor Fiorello LaGuardia in the 1959 Pulitzer Prize-winning musical. That’s Chris Vettel, who plays Republican politico Ben Marino - and does it with such verve that he was the show’s standout performance. His (and the skilled chorus’s) rendition of “Little Tin Box” alone is almost worth the price of admission.
If only the cast could have played the comedy with a more skilled touch.
