“Happy Friday everyone! FIP Global CATS has been supporting treatment for FIP cats for years, but our dream and goal has always been legal treatment available through veterinarians. Today I have an exciting announcement that legal treatment with GS-441524 will be available in the US starting June 1!

Stokes pharmacy in the US has partnered with BOVA to bring legally compounded GS tablets to the US. The tablets will be compounded in the US in a formulation identical to the BOVA formulation currently in use in the UK and Australia. Availability begins starting June 1!

Pricing is not yet available, but I'll share more information as I have it!”

My cat, Cole, had FIP. The only way he survived it was by me obtaining treatment through the secondary market. The network is extensive and the medicine expensive. I’m super excited for it to be legal and available here in the US!

Recently changed Ricky’s food to a super high protein diet and he has started to scoot himself around! He likes to explore the kitchen, and will flop over to the fridge to beg for whip cream. Any progress is amazing progress, seeing him move around again has made me happy for him!!

I don't make a lot of Akari updates because I can't get pictures of her. Ever since I treated her with daily injections for 12 weeks she's very wary of me. Recently though, Akari has approached me and even let me pet her!

Akari survived FIP. She was diagnosed at 5 months old, and she almost died. These days she is as big as her sister and is doing AMAZING.

FIP treatment has been legalized in the US. Cats like Akari can live now with an easily accessible oral medication, instead of 84 days of painful injections.

A few people here on Tumblr did donate and share her post. I'm a few years late but a special thank you to @furshrimps and @doomspaniels for always signal booster Akari's fundraising posts. She is here, and she is healthy thanks to a loving community that came together for her.

You know what, the entire tag for feline infectious peritonitis is from people who lost cats from it and they’re almost entirely older posts but if a single person sees this and can treat their cat its worth it.

FIP is no longer a death sentence. There is treatment.

The treatment is called GS-441524. It’s about 1 step off from remdesivir. It’s still an experimental treatment and is not FDA approved. This means your vet might not have heard of it and cannot dispense it from their pharmacy. Some vets will not work with you at all on it because they are worried about lawsuits, think its not worth it, or simply have never heard of it. There are cats who were treated with it back in 2016 who are currently alive and healthy today.

It’s 12 weeks of daily injections (or pills, although they’re more expensive and may not work as well) followed by 12 weeks of observation. You do a blood test every month. There’s a giant facebook group dedicated to getting this med to people who assigns you to an admin when you request to join. You have to show your cat was diagnosed with fip and your admin is the only one allowed to give you medical advice. It sounds horrible to be buying a treatment from a facebook page but vets legally cannot dispense non fda approved medication in case of lawsuits.

It’s dosed based off initial symptoms (dry verses wet fip) and your cats unique case as well as weight but for a standard case of wet fip, it costs anywhere from $1,500 ish for a kitten starting it to $3,000 or so for a 9 pound cat. Some cats need more, some need less. The group will even help you to fundraise and has a lot of people whose cats have graduated who happily donate and your admin answers any medical questions + helps you find a vet in your area who will oversee this treatment. A vet might tell you that there’s no hope and you should say goodbye to an FIP cat because they dont know or trust the treatment but there are thousands of people with still living cats years after having FIP. If your cat gets on this early enough and you can afford a full round of treatment, they have a damn good shot at getting cured.

Akari has dry FIP with neurological presentation. This means she does not accumulate fluid in her abdomen and chest. She presented as a "failure to thrive" kitten and it took weeks to whittle down her diagnosis to FIP. We were almost too late. By the time we got the first dose of her treatment in she was almost too far gone. The second day of treatment I thought she was dying and all our work had been for nothing. By the third day she was a different cat. She was engaging, she was playing with her sister, she was leaving her bed for the first time in weeks. Within a week of treatment she was no longer walking plantigrade. Please help us continue with treatment. Akari is a fighter, but my sister and I need help. We can no longer shoulder the financial burden. Help Akari live.

I can’t express enough how thankful I am to each and every one of you that has donated!  You are literally responsible for me being able to save his life!  We are on track to stop treatment at the 84 day period (17 more days).  Then we go into the observation phase for another 84 days.  If the monthly blood work stays good we will be cured!!!
