how did Kai meet his husband? also you said he was abused shortly after his fall, was that by a human he met or by the other angels he left behind? i love him so much i missed your art of him jdmfmsndkdkdj

his abuser was a human! When he fell, he landed near a wealthy estate property, and the father and eldest son of the family found him while they were out hunting. They take it as a divine sign that their family is blessed. I don’t name any of the family in the comic script, because Kai doesn’t remember their names or their faces, only how their treatment affected him. The eldest son basically grooms him to be a story-book angel to play the harp and sing in their salon, and cuts his hair/clips his wings and gaslights him. The rest of the family are bystanders. Kai ends up killing the eldest son and setting fire to a wing of the estate before escaping. The rest of the family never come looking for him, seeing his retribution as another divine sign. He hops a train for a few days, does a lot of scenic hiking, and ends up in a small farming/fishing village in some coastal mountains! Wild haired and bright eyed!

The townspeople are happy to receive him but give him a respectful berth, and he boards in one of the small rooms in what used to be an abbey. Angel lore is. strange in this world because like, fallen angels DO have some divine essence to them, and people either react with awe or revulsion or fear or hatred.. thankfully the village is a peaceful one and sees his arrival as meaning plain good luck, and they let him come and go as he pleases, and he slowly opens up to them as he recovers. 

I don’t focus much on the outside lore of the world, but its sort of like. Late 1800s early 1900s historical-fantasy?? PURELY for aesthetics and technology, I’m not trying to make any real-world parallels. Anyhoot he meets his FUTURE HUSBAND by complete accident and it’s very Princess Mononoke UM

Lucien is on military leave due to a broken arm, and he ends up boarding in the same town Kai now lives in. Luc decides to take a walk in the orchards by the abbey to clear his head, and Kai sees Man In Uniform and pulls a knife on him from a few feet away, just. Standing between the trees, hair grown out slightly, knife winking the sunlight at Luc. He says if he ever wants to set foot in the orchard again he can’t come dressed for violence, and Luc leaves pretty shaken (and very flustered). Lucien puts in the effort to get civilian clothes before going back to the orchard, but they don’t always meet because Kai is wary of him. Sometimes they talk for hours, sometimes they bring books and read in silence, sometimes they bump into each other in the town market, etc etc, this goes on for literally years as Luc comes and goes and eventually gets discharged from the army (for questioning orders or picking fights with nasty dudes in his ranks probably). SLOW FUCKING BURN!!! They both guard their love fiercely and need to be absolutely certain the other 1) WANTS it and 2) will reciprocate it before they can even come close to expressing it. Mess. They end up inheriting the abbey and orchards and tending to it as old gays together. Married!!!

oh geez lol. as of right now i don’t think so...i’m not at a point where i’m confident enough in my art to be comfortable selling it. maybe one day though, in the (distant) future. although i’m flattered u like it enough to want to buy prints of it!
