I daresay the expression is spot on.... i can already imagine being on zuko's ship and telling him that we're behind schedule on something due to human error and he just heaves a little sigh and does THAT as he guilt trips me into trying to fix it.

ALSO DW ABT THE CHANGES!!! i didnt even notice until i read the fine print and even now im like squinting at it going "changes?? changes???? what changes?????"

after much trial and error, i present: Seiyo

(yes ik i said i'd post this on monday idc i got bored <3) i rambled so much i fuckin ran out the word limit :sob: can you believe that??? brevity is the soul of wit and i'm fuckin stupid. ANYWAYS that means that THIS post gets his final version, his reference image, and some extra color tests i did and i will REBLOG with my notes.

first, THE REFERENCE IMAGES!! i used more just by virtue of having the image search tab to the left while i drew, but these are the main ones, with some scribbles to note what i used from each of them!! i do wish i'd drawn seiyo with his little dragon trick he got from the fire festival, but i need a break from drawing :sob: i'm a WRITER. drawing something that doesn't look awful takes a lot out of me.

here are some tests i did as well to see what sort of colors i wanted! i like the idea of him having much brighter colors, but i don't want him to be read as being "good" compared to zuko and iroh, who both wear very dull colors at the start of the show to contrast the gaang's brighter palettes. (the first image is actually just colors i took from zuko + a pink for his gi). i'm sure he'll end up in brighter colors eventually, but for now, i think it's fine as-is :)

seiyo takes inspo mainly from japanese culture and, though it wasn't intentional to create such a disconnect from the rest of the show that avoids it, i've come up with a justification that the fic has yet to touch on

seiyo's current color palette was inspired by zuko, azula, mai, AND ty lee, though the overall darkness is inspired by zuko. i initially wanted him to be brighter with more pinks, but i felt it contrasted too heavily against zuko and portrayed seiyo as more trustworthy than he should seem. he's still affiliated with zuko at the end of the day, and book 1/2 zuko is definitely an antagonist.

seiyo's eyes are a duller color than the other firebenders, who have honey/gold colored eyes. this is because of his comparatively weak bending, and also create more of a disconnect between his and zuko's appearances!

seiyo is taller than zuko. this isn't shown here, but i wanted to mention it. he's about eye level with the top of zuko's head. unstrung, his ideal bow is probably zuko's height lmao.

zuko also has long hair as an adult, so to not have them look so samey, i'll probably have seiyo do his up in some sort of geisha-esque style (and opt for a simpler version while the gaang is out doing gaang shit, idk what happens in the movie it's not out yet). it'll most likely end up down anyways, so i'll probably have to figure out a new bangs situation for him. i'm excited for that :)

anyways as for the art itself, SEIYO AND HIS HONEY POT (only just now realizing the joke in that, lmao) LOOK AT HE!!! he so nom... he DOES deserve a little red crop top with his honey btw.

AND HIS DRAGON??? omg..... it's bigger than i pictured it being but honestly i might have him make it bigger because the idea of seiyo and da dwagon touching foreheads....... the fine detail of it all compared to the dragon in the show being made of full flame as well??? AAAHHHHH i love it omg. picturing it spinning around seiyo's heels and flicking up his robe so he looks all cool and shit... dragon hula hoop... AUGH I WANNA DRAW HIM AGAIN.

I fear if I wait till you post that Seiyo art, I might forget to ask, so might as well do it now.... I wish to make him and Zuko in the new Tomodachi Life game. Could you kindly choose a personality for Seiyo…? And Zuko too if you could. 🙈🩷🩷

anyways, i think Seiyo fits the "Energetic - Charmer" personality! Confident/Reserved don't quite fit him, and the "innocent" note on the Easy-going personality isn't very... him. lol. He's not quite Hot-Blooded, Bubbly is more of Aang's thing, and Seiyo isn't enough of a show-stealer to be the Adventurer. However, I do think he prides himself on being "on-form", and his confidence in his ability to manipulate girls--i mean talk his way out of trouble lends itself well to "easily adapting".

as for Zuko, i think he fits securely within the "Confident - Leader" personality! both Energetic and Easy-going were out of the question. i think it's obvious why lmao. the only reason he isn't Reserved is because, even in book 3, he's not quite the type to be "cautious" or to "calmly lay out facts". he's VERY impulsive thruout the whole series, which is why i think Leader suits him better than Headstrong, just because Headstrong implies he makes plans. but genuinely, even if he does, most of his plans are "go off on my own, find the avatar, profit". he's got some bulletpoints, but he's a risk-taker and Very ambitious.
