Firefly Cinemas is Wellington’s first permanent outdoor & drive-in cinema. Located at Trentham Racecourse we run unique and fun events screening a variety of films from classics to cult favourites, new releases and everything in-between.
Drive-in: Pull your car up to the idyllic drive-in courtyard situated in front of the retro main tote building. Experience the revival of 60s drive-in cinema, combined with the modern technology of the 40ft inflatable air screen and in-car audio transmission. Forget all cinematic etiquette and scrunch your chippy packets, predict the ending outloud, and smooch to your heart’s content from the privacy and comfort of your own car!
Open-air: On those balmier nights, set yourself up on a picnic blanket, bean bag or camping chair on the large lawn area in front of the main stand. Bring your own picnic dinner, or purchase delicious food and beverages from the Trentham cafe and bar instead! There’s nothing more magical than watching a movie under a canopy of stars.
