This isnt FUN.. Most of the time.
A little info, I am a full time college student. Today, my boyfriend wore his dress blues for a presentation that he had to do. It was the first time I had seen him in them so I know I was grinning, proudly, ear to ear when we walked through the halls together. Someone looks at me later and says "it must be fun to date a firefighter. I have always wanted to date a man in uniform." The list of thoughts that immediately ran through my head are as follows:
1. Oh honey, you have no idea what you just said. 2. He is more than just a man in uniform. His uniform is simply what identifies his job, NOT him as a person. 3. Yes. He looks good in a uniform. But he is still mine only. 4. I am extremely proud of him 5. *mentally listing off everything that comes with dating a firefighter that NO ONE realizes* 6. It aint all its cracked up to be. 7. Im slightly offended. They dont realize that NO dating a firefighter is not FUN.Its hard work. Its late nights spent worrying. Its knowing you may or may not get stood up on a date because he has a call. Its knowing that you are NOT his first priority, his job is, and you will ALWAYS come second to his job. And then, all seriousness and difficulties aside, its the best thing to ever happen. Its another wacky family to call your own and its an incredible thing to be a part of.
