0: no account fool
the miniature dog yaps at his heels
ruining an otherwise delightful stroll
the sun is out the sky is blue
the trail provides a mountain view
each step he takes brings him closer
the whereto and wherefrom do not matter
the dance itself creates his day
each moment a circle along his way
his story propels him toward the edge
the dog leaps and barks before the ledge
April is National Poetry Month. I will post a poem each day for a month. I am starting with a poem by me (Yes, I am that arrogant), illustrated by my sister, Firethorn Studio
21: Elemental Change
Stepping through a green door
on the cliff’s edge, he gives birth
to himself, singing his childish songs.
Like omphalos blood washed
into the earth by a mid-wife,
auras of light drip from him
with a musical clarity
as he dances into the wind.

(This is from a series called “Arcana.” It is a joint poetry/ visual art project based on the tarot pack. I have written a poem connected to each of the cards of the tarot deck. My sister, Firethorn Studio, is illustrating at least the 22 major arcana. This is #21)
See a Way Through Me
open another book
follow the lines
finger the words
lift her veil
such kisses lie
within the mind
seductive turns
away away
What’s left
depends
upon direction
two roads
one way
yours and mine

11: with all equanimity
as if any given can be divined
as to its true justification
yes no yes no yes separated until
the true binary collapses to one
which is squarely seen to be no
more than what is said to be
stripped clean of any tacit
obligations to more than now
without causality’s shades clouding
stark judgment’s clear sight
as she lays her lidless eyes upon my life
then turns upon the detritus
to make similar claims upon it all
