#FireUpdates > Digging line takes time! The perimeter of the #SlaterFire is over 250 miles around - that's a lot of line. That's like digging a line from Cave Junction to Portland or the Napa Valley! Since we currently have 20, twenty-person handcrews working on the Slater Fire, each crew would have to dig over 20 miles of line to get around this fire. Even though dozers help in many areas, and we try to use existing roads, terrain features like rock slides and river, it's a long, arduous process. And if we consider lines that are reinforced with dozers, contingency lines that are put in place "just in case," and lines that are jumped and have to be rebuilt, there's even more. A huge shout out goes to all the firefighters working on all the miles of line today! #slaterdevilfire #slaterincident via @u.s.forestservice https://www.instagram.com/p/CFiAKTEB7lt/?igshid=4wylbavqong7
