A pod of dolphins traveling down the Matanzas River
Dolphins in the Matanzas River! Look at those little flukes!!
Did you know that the Matanzas River isn’t actually a true river, but is in fact a long, narrow sound?
What’s the difference? A true river flows from a certain source(s) (such as a spring, for instance) and empties into a larger body of water. The Matanzas River, however, is simply an intercoastal waterway lying between the mainland and several barrier islands, making it a sound.
A dolphin catching a fish in the Matanzas River!
From my personal experience, I’ve observed that the dolphins of the Matanzas River (at least in the Palm Coast/Marineland area) usually hunt along the shoreline and/or in “side creeks.” Seeing one chase fish in the middle of the boat channel like this individual was doing appears to be a rather unusual event.

“Sing to the Lord, bless his name; tell of his salvation from day to day. Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous works among all the peoples! For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; he is to be feared above all gods.” (Psalm 96:2-4)

“ And God said, “Let the waters swarm with swarms of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the expanse of the heavens.” So God created the great sea creatures and every living creature that moves, with which the waters swarm, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.” (Genesis 1:20-21)
