but will yuzu and karin be alright in first protector? in between the shinigami abandoning ichigo and urahara showing up to help her, who takes care of them? or does ichigo hold on just enough to take care of them?

The twins will be okay for the most part because no matter what happens to Ichigo, no matter the suffering or the hurt, they will always come first.

First Protector! AU Ichigo not only having her immune system completely destroyed, but what if her loss also affected her brain? She'd present symptoms of someone with a degenerative disease that compromised the memory. She'd remember battles, how she got scars, but she'd forget names and faces, specially the people who abandoned her. She'd set alarms to remind herself to eat and drink water, since her body didn't register hunger and thirst anymore. She only felt numb and sleepy. "Do I know u?"

Ohhh the hurt of it all and some of this is canon to the AU.

Ichigo does not take well at all the being left with only the shattered remains of her own soul.  Doesn’t take well to being left broken and mutilated with no one there to help her, no one there to try and ease the ache.

She gets tired and sleepy now when she shouldn’t but alternately can’t sleep, body numb and burning by turns, nightmares/memories haunting what fractured and broken sleep she gets.

And what’s worse is that her instincts, the sharper, more hollow bits of her that have always lived right below the surface but were tightly controlled, have gotten worse.

She gets angry easier, restless and itching with need, alternately not feeling the need for food or sleep and being ravenous for something she can’t put her finger on.

A soul does not split evenly after all and Ichigo has always been a creature of mixed heritage and extremes.

By the time Kisuke comes back around she’s teetering on the edge of exhausted and feral and it’s up to him to pull her back and hope that it’s not too late to undo some of the damage he had a hand in doing.

Idk why, but Hollow by Tori Kelly & Big Sean is giving me ma Jim or fem!Ichiho/First Protector vibes atm.
