Your first toy!
As a child I grew up playing games that all the other kids played. A very common name which mostly all of us would be aware off. It’s called ‘Ghar-Ghar’. Now the interesting point, which went almost unnoticed all these years, was that how the roles were assigned to each player. The young girl would cook in the kitchen, with her kitchen set, and the young boy would act as the husband, with a briefcase in his hand ‘tired’ and then waiting for the food to be served. Let me clarify, there is nothing wrong in being a housewife, if you have chosen that as your occupation. It is a tiresome work and it is only fair to divide the work.
The point of stating this is to project as to how gender roles are indirectly assigned to us from the very beginning.
Gender Injustice starts here, where we for the first time buy our kids his or her first set of toys. A Girl? A barbie or a kitchen Set. A boy? A car or a doctor-doctor briefcase.
We need to END this at the very Beginning. The beginning of our childhood.
Just a step forward to end the many ways of the patriarchal Society.
Let them both play with the kitchen set. Let them both be doctors.
Just a reminder! Girls you don’t necessarily have to adjust because it has been a practice! If you don’t agree with something? Don’t follow it. The society might call you a rebel. But you know what. Who cares.
It is just a waste of time to unlearn things what we learned as children. IMAGINE what all could we have learned at the very beginning, the world would be so much more progressive and a better place to live in.
I was posed a question today, asking that why are men expected to be chivalrous? I told her that this is also just another role assigned. Nothing stops a woman from being chivalrous. She can open the door for you, pull a chair, or even bend down on her knees to propose.
That is for you to decide, when you give them their first toy.
