A Beautiful Obsession
Pairing: Jae Jun x oc (Hana)
Summary: Seo Hana was the radiant center of her high school-a student council member, the popular girl, admired for her beauty and charisma. But despite the admiration she drew, she was oblivious to the darker truths hidden in the shadows of her school... especially the truth about her quiet, loyal friend: Moon dong-eun.
Part 2
Ever since the burn, Dong-eun has been avoiding Hana at every turn. In the hallways, she ducks out of sight. In class, she invents excuse after excuse—headaches, forgotten materials, family emergencies—anything to keep from sitting too close, speaking too long, or being seen. Even when they're paired for assignments, Dong-eun finds a way to disappear. The classroom empties slowly but Dong-eun stays behind, shoving her books into her bag. She doesn't hear Hana walk up behind her. "Eunnie ," Hana says softly making Dong-eun freeze. "Yeah?" She responds softly. "We're partners for this project. Again." Hana offers a small laugh, trying to keep it light. "Are you going to vanish on me this time too?"
Dong-eun finally turns, eyes darting everywhere but Hana's face. "I'm... just really busy." She stutters making hana frown. "You've never been too busy before," Hana says gently, stepping closer. "Is it something I did?"
"No." The word is quick, sharp—too fast to be convincing.
Hana studies her for a second before sighing. "Then what is it? why won't you even look at me?" She questions. Dong-eun swallows hard as her hand grips the strap of her bag. "I'm fine. Don't worry about it," she whispers.
"But I am worried," Hana says, voice trembling slightly. "You've been different to me. Hiding things. And I know you don't want to talk about it, but... you don't have to do this alone. I can help and try to understand"
For a second, Dong-eun's eyes flick up to Hana's—and something nearly cracks open. But then she looks away. "I have to go," she says, brushing past her. Hana watches her go, the weight of something unspoken thick in the air. She doesn't chase her.
Unfortunately, that was the last time Hana saw her best friend.........
.....
Later that day, Hana walks home slowly, her steps heavy. Her best friend—the one person who's always been by her side—is suddenly avoiding her, and she has no idea why. Was it something she did? Did she say something offensive? Maybe something is going on at home and she doesn't want her to know.
As she steps in the door she sighs before seeing her parents on the couch. Her parents are waiting in the living room, sitting too still , too quiet. Entirely too quiet. "Hana," her father says with a stern voice causing Hana to visibly gulp. "Sit down. We need to talk."
She furrows her brows but obeys, perching on the edge of the couch. "What's going on?" she questions looking at her parents in confusion and concern. "When you were little we decided that you would marry To Ha Do-yeong when you are of age.....for business..." Hana's mother explains as she puts her hand on top of her husbands hand. The words crash into her like a wave. Her mouth parts, but nothing comes out.
Engaged? To someone she barely knows? Hana stares at them, stunned. "What?"
"It's a good match," her father adds. "His family is stable. Respectable."
"Your joking right?" Hana questions but earns silence from her parents. "You can't be serious." Her voice is low, disbelieving. "You're deciding my future behind my back? Just for business?"
"Don't think of it like that....This was decided long ago. We are very good friends with the family," her mother says. "You're old enough now. It's time to honor the agreement."
"I don't love him," Hana snaps. "I barely know him."
"Love comes later," her father replies coldly. "This is bigger than feelings. It's about your future—and our family."
"My future?" Hana's voice rises. "How can you say that? This has nothing to with my future. You mean your pride. Your business ties. Your image. You don't even care what I want!"
"Lower your voice," her mother warns. "No!" Hana stands, eyes burning. "You're selling me off like I'm some bargaining chip!"
"Seo Hana she willl not repeat herself" her father says sternly causing Hana to go quiet. "Don't I get a say in this?" She whispers as tears swell in her eyes.
Her father's jaw clenches. "You will marry Ha Do-yeong, Hana. That is final."
She looks between them, heart pounding, tears stinging her eyes. She doesn't say another word instead She turns, storms out of the house, and slams the door behind her.
.....
The night air bites at Hana's skin as she walks with no real destination—just away. Her phone buzzes in her pocket, probably her mother, but she doesn't look. Her ears are still ringing with their voices. You're getting engaged... This is final...
She finds herself in front of the convenience, store. She didn't know where else to go but stopping at a convenience store wasn't exactly what she had in mind. She sits on the bench outside, hunched forward, arms draped over her knees, hair shielding her face. Across the street, Jae Jun stops mid-step when he sees her. His brows lift, amused. "Seo Hana?" he calls out, strolling over. He slides onto the bench beside her, still watching. "You look like hell."
She snorts softly, not denying it. "Thanks that makes me feel so much better" she says wiping her tears. "You good?" he asks, less mocking now, but still casual—like he's trying not to sound like he cares too much. Hana just shakes her head. "No."
She drops her head into her hands as tears keep falling. "Are you gonna tell me what's the problem?" Jae Jun questions making Hana look up at him. "My parents arranged for me to get married" she reveals making Jae Jun clench his jaw. "I barely know the guy. But my father thinks it's a good idea to help his business grow better. I don't want to get married but I have no choice " she explains as tears well up. "Arranged marriage?" he spat, voice low but burning. "Who the hell does that anymore? Your dad thinks he can trade you like a fucking business deal?"
"I don't know what to do" she whispers as tears fall down her cheeks. Jae Jun looks at the tears run down her face before clenching his hands.
"Marry me"
