Sis is going out to dine with her friend, so she helped buy my Economy Rice (菜饭) dinner. She selected a sweet, sour & spicy fish 🐟 steak, sweet & sour pork 🐖 and some form of stir-fried melon, gourd or old cucumber 🥒 with tomato 🍅 & egg 🥚 to go with my rice.
I actually put on serious effort to make the picture above haha.
Anyway, I was sick thus lost my appetite for the last 3 days, and I hadn't dined out for quite a while. So after doing some grocery shopping, I without putting my stuff first at home directly went to this dining I was frequent to, it's quite far from where I live. Hadn't had any food since morning, I thought of having a full meal, and boy I did.
Here's the list of foods you could see on the picture: iced coffee with milk, vanilla ice cream, cookies, fruit salad and fish steak with steamed veggies and sweet potato puree and barbeque sauce.
While I was having this meal, my Dad suddenly called and we talked about lots of things, including me reporting what I was eating which was met with my Dad's and Mom's usual response, namely questioning where did all the foods go as I never gained significant weight, and saying gratitude for my healing appetite, and additional message for me to buy whatever I want as long as I'm happy and eating well. Our conversation had to be abruptly ended because it's time for maghrib prayer for my Dad, and after saying salaam and put down my phone, I felt like crying while smiling, thanking God for the best blessing in the form of my parents.
That's all I can share, haha.

Biggest fish steak I ever had, Alghero, Sardinia 08/17
A crispy fried red snapper fillet filled up the lower half of the plate. The fish belonged to the Emperor Red Snapper 🐟 (Lutjanus sebae), locally known as Ang Sai or Hong Shi (红狮). The flesh is fine, tender and when you pries the flesh apart, they don’t flake like grouper. When used in a soupy dish like curry, the flesh holds its shape while absorbing the curry. Mum stir-fried the garlic chives (青龙菜) with these large tiger prawns 🦐 and tomato wedges. The preserved Chinese mustard greens (焖梅菜) with pork ribs are from a few days ago but the dish flavours get more mellow as it gets reheated over and over again.
Time to show you mum’s home-cooked dinner. Today she dished up her “house special” Spicy Emperor Red Snapper 🐟 (红狮) fillet with chilli and spice paste blended by sis. After slicing the bitter gourd, mum adds salt to it and gently squeeze out some of the bitter juice then rinse with water before cooking. Here is the finished product – Stir-Fried Bitter Gourd with Egg and minced pork. There are still some leftovers preserved Chinese mustard greens 🥬 with pork to go with the mixed rice.
