deuce: white hare. kind of supposed to juxtapose his delinquent past with today + reference to the source material
cater: fox. yes it’s a reference to his personality
trey: elk stag, stag specified because i want him to have those big antlers. really any ungulate that lives in forests
riddle: hedgehog. prickly nature, looks kinda cute, also related to heartslabyul so i feel it suits him
i feel as though all of savanaclaw is self explanatory, however since they’ve always been portrayed as more animalistic in canon i feel they could double as taurs of their animals as well to both differentiate them like canon does and keeps that stronger connection to nature about them
as for octivanelle they are also self explanatory but the reason ive given Floyd legs in one of my drawings is that it’s the effect of the potion to stay on land. there are two options for Azul he either forms an odd non-humanly colored no nosed creature with his tentacles as his hair kinda splatoon style or he keeps his 8 legs for his potion effects.
kalim: sea otter. for his unique magic, the way he stands out (kind in a sea of mean people, shown physically through living in an arid environment and is a semi-aquatic creature) and that Floyd calls him that lol
jamil: viper. hehe get it. i think it just fits also shows how he’s better suited for his environment than Kalim is
Epel: bunny. he insists he’s a hare . do you think speciesism is a thing now is Leona calling people herbivore problematic in this universe now
rook: hear me out. he’s an antelope. this explains why everyone is so much more off put with him “hunting” and i loveeee the herbivore hunter trope it just suits him well
Vil: peafowl… simple but it works, or a secretary bird
Idia: borzoi dog. he has the sadness in his eyes multiplied and if you subscribe to the your yuu being a dog mutt idea i have then it also gives an extra sense of camaraderie that he mentions before in canon about them both being introverts
ortho: chimera. like in the sense he can change his animal at will with different parts. this is a reference to how he keeps having different animal themes in his cards
note i feel flimsy on my diasomnia character assignments because i feel like the fae should be exclusively mythical creatures but i do not know enough mythology to assign sebek and lilia proper mythical creatures.
malleus: dragon. self explanatory
lilia: vampire bat
Sebek: yeah I’ll subscribe to the crocodile sebek. also it’s visual similarities with dragons i feel he’d be quite proud about that
silver: bird but not just any. either the Japanese snow fairy bird or the shrike bird depends on how you see him . note if you do search up shrike bird you will come across dead animal gore so do be careful!! i thought of assigning him a unicorn for the dragon v unicorn symbolism and the fact he kind of screams Amalthea to me but he is not fae so thus he must be normal.
sorry if it seems lazy but when i draw Kalim anthropomorphized he is so gonna be a sea otter. it’s genuinely so fitting not only does it represent how he doesn’t fit in and how sea otters don’t live in such an arid environment as he does and his unique magic but they’re also just the cutest animals ever. yes he would hold hands with his buddies to not float away
