Aunty Janet’s Chinese Birthday Dinner. It was like an extension of Aunty Janet’s role in the Countdown commercial where she screams to Uncle Charles, “MORE STEAK!” as poor Uncle shuffles to the supermarket to get more steak and bangers for the barbie. Chinese are not known for their PDA but Aunty & Uncle are from a boisterous acting, opera, ballroom dancing and larger than life backgrounds. Uncle Charles has just come back from 3 months grandchildren minding in New York. His appearance tonight was iffy as he’d been wearing a neckbrace, the result of snogging a total stranger who liked to rest her head on Uncle’s shoulder during the long haul flight. But he obviously missed Aunty and planted wet smackers on the Cantonese opera diva. Aunty had arranged the whole menu with HKD Chinese Seafood Restaurant at 928 Dominion Rd. After starting with the house soup (lai thong), most of the dishes had a “long life” theme, including the long life noodles and fish. There was also steamed tofu with scallops, snowpea with black fungus, pork mince patties with salted fish, taro basket, eggplant hotpot, rock salt steamed chicken and a heavenly herbal duck. Dessert started with a sago & pumpkin palate cleanser, followed by angku kuih and red boiled eggs, all for longevity. The birthday cake was made up of 12 segments: durian, kiwi fruit, chocolate, green tea and tiramisu. Durian lovers amongst us dived straight into the durian layered cream cake - stinky as Hades bottom but divine in flavour. We laughed so much during dinner; Aunty Janet said, laughter adds at least 5 more years to our lives. Bao sei hor lan dau! Happy birthday Aunty Janet and many more to come. #happybirthdaydinner #hkseafoodrestaurant #928dominionroad #longlifenoodles #fishforlongevity #angkukueh #redeggs #duriancake #instabirthday (at HKD Seafood Restaurant) https://www.instagram.com/p/BxgqxuIFzTZ/?igshid=7gip0cds1tt8
