While Fitz has always been easy to irritate and I get why Deke’s personality in particular could set him off, I do think the show took that irritation too far into outright disdain a lot of the time and didn’t give nearly enough scenes of them starting to actually bond to make up for it. What I would have given for more scenes where Fitz begins to see more of himself in him (in a positive way and not the negative way that that could easily also be), more of what he loves in Jemma in him, and start to appreciate the grandson he has rather than some idealized one he wishes he had instead. To see them start to bond for real over a project and have that working relationship bleed into a real relationship where Fitz can actually get to know him and Deke can feel like his grandfather might just want him around. I wish so badly that there had been some kind of scene where Deke is in trouble and Fitz comes to the rescue, threatening the bad guys to get their hands off his grandson. I really don’t have too many issues with AoS overall and I love the Fitzfamily so much but this specific dynamic really could have been worked on better. Fitz doesn’t have to be annoyed with him in nearly every single scene and Deke shouldn’t have to feel that he was too inherently irritating for his grandfather to want to have a relationship with him.
