Summary: 

She’s been longing for this weekend for weeks, and just this morning the anticipated pleasure of it made her toes curl in her carpet and her laughter sound like that of a child as she tasted freedom, or as close to freedom as she’s ever going to get.

That joy is still there, the laughter still on her tongue, but there is news she needs to share in its place now, and it doesn’t taste so sweet.

“I received a proposal today.”

“From someone other than me?"

Almost star-crossed but not quite. There are other parties interested in coming to an arrangement. The story of proposal number four.

Ooh! OK, what about your Top 5 Fitzsimmons fics?

Oh I have so many favorites!! I’ll try to limit the list but I could go on for pages! I am sure that these have been mentioned by myself and others before but they are just some of my top favorites. There are other amazing FS fics (and other AoS fics) out there but these are just some of the ones I go back to time and time again.

1. Murder by Mistake by @recoveringrabbit

Summary: Certain they know what to expect, neither Jemma nor Fitz is particularly excited when their presence is demanded at a house party. It promises to be a deadly dull weekend away from their projects, stuffed with awkward snubs and long tedious attempts at conversation. Of course, they never expected each other. And then there's the small matter of the guest found dead in bed Saturday morning, leaving Fitz as the prime suspect...    Series

This story is wonderful! I am a huge Agatha Christie fan and this had all those vibes. It’s also part of a series that is incredible. I read it like a chapter book, coming to it every night with a ridiculous amount of excitement. It’s amazing!

2. Carry the Ocean Back to Me by @eclecticmuses

Summary: Leo Fitz is a poor shipyard worker from Glasgow, looking for a fresh start. Jemma Simmons is a daughter of the British nobility being forced into a marriage she doesn't want. When the two of them cross paths on the world's greatest ocean liner, they both feel like they've finally found a kindred spirit in each other. But with the ship sailing toward its infamous destiny, things are bound to get complicated. AU of the 1997 film "Titanic".

It’s amazing, I cried. The story is so well written and I loved literally every word of it. The way that it is laid out and how deep the emotions go is just astounding. Truly brilliant writing in a truly brilliant fic!

3. Dreams by @agentofship

Summary: Fitz has been dealing with quite a serious problem since the explosion that happened a year ago. He thinks Jemma Simmons -the new biochemist Coulson has hired whom he might have a big crush on- could help him solve it. If only he could find a way to talk to her. The solution might be just as peculiar as his problem.

This is a more recent fic but I was in love with it from the very first chapter. The concept is so much fun and it is executed to perfection. The writing is wonderful and I love all the character dynamics. It is so flipping amazing!

4. The Sleeping Beauty Curse by @libbyweasley

Summary: Season 1 AU.  Jemma pricks her finger on an 084 and falls into a deep sleep, waking up in the future.  Meanwhile, Fitz struggles to wake her up until he finally takes Skye’s advice and attempts a fairy tale solution to the problem.

This was one of the first multi-chapter fics I read and it continues to be one of my favorites. I love time traveling Fitzsimmons in fics, and this one is kind of time traveling, kind of not. It’s amazing and I love it and it makes me happy.

5. Parallelogram by @blancasplayground

Summary: Jemma is visited by a mysterious stranger who claims he knows her and asks for her help. Any logical person would send him packing, but there's something about him that makes her want to trust him.

I would literally drop everything when I saw an update from this fic. It is so well done, the concept is so much fun, and I love seeing different versions of the same character all in one fic. It is brilliant and I love it and deserves heaps of praise!

Full Moon chapter 1/2

Full Moon chapter 1/2 Pairing: FitzSimmons Rated M, 4,2k words (1k words for the first chapter) Summary: Fitz decides that it is finally the right moment to confess his love for his best friend. Unfortunately, for Jemma, this is the worst moment for that. An Academy Era kind-of-crack fic. Second chapter will be posted tomorrow. because canon never gifted me with them actually slow dancing, so I wrote them slow dancing as many times as I could make plausible :p it was a journey but we got there in the end. I hope you enjoy!

Summary:

"Their first dance is at the Academy.

Jemma is rigid, attempting to execute the steps as though they were the steps of a mathematical equation and not a waltz. Fitz is loose-limbed, gangly, and his attempts to pass his partner forward in the progressives look more as though he is attempting to send her into orbit."

Six times that Fitzsimmons try to slow dance, and the one time that they manage to get it right.

It’s not really dancing, per se. It could be dancing, it should be dancing, but what they are doing is most definitely not. Jemma is rigid, attempting to execute the steps as though they were the steps of a mathematical equation and not a waltz. Fitz is loose-limbed, gangly, and his attempts to pass his partner forward in the progressives look more as though he is attempting to send her into orbit.

Their instructor, already frustrated at trying to corral the mixed group of cadets into learning this skill for the upcoming ball amidst waves of protestation, pairs them together in the hope that they’ll balance each other out. You should never have been apart, is what he grumbles as he walks off. Only bad things happen.

It seems bad things can happen when they are together, also. Psychic connection they may have, but apparently it doesn’t extend to the dancefloor. Jemma grips too tightly to Fitz’s arm and leaves the marks of her fingernails behind. Fitz’s attempts to spin her leave her arm almost ripped from its socket.

“How can you be so bad at this?” She hisses, after one particularly violent twirl. “It’s practically just physics.”

“Oh well excuse me,” he blusters, trying not to think about them being the closest they’ve ever been in the six months they’ve known each other. He glares at the nails in his bicep instead. “You’re the one that’s trying to steer me about the place like I’m a bloody car, Simmons. I’m a person.”

somewhere beyond the sea

Happy Birthday to the absolutely amazing bean that is @springmagpies !! I’m so sorry this gift is ever so slightly later than I meant for it to be but I hope you enjoy it! You’re truly such a wonderful bean, Maggie, and I love you to the moon and back!

Summary:

She is their water baby. He is sure that, if she could, she would devour the ocean whole.

The story of how Alya falls in love with the sea, and teaches Fitz to love it again, too.

At first he just thinks it is the water.

Alya splashes around in her little homemade bath, kicking with delight. At two months old she already has such a personality that he didn’t expect. Every day he learns something new about her, and every day he only wants to learn more.

“Look at her,” he says to Jemma, not tearing his eyes away from the slippery baby in his arms. He does this every time, but the fear that he will drop her, that she will slither into his arms and underneath the bubbles, is still great. “Right little water baby.”

“It’s still a new sensation for her,” Jemma says as she comes over, swirling her hands in the water. “She’s learning what it’s all about.” She strokes Alya’s tufty hair, bops some bubbles on her button nose. “It is adorable, though.”

Adorable, Fitz thinks. Adorable is right, but it’s not quite it. It’s something different, he knows. Something that he can’t quite put his finger on just yet.

“Yeah, it is,” he agrees instead, his poor, new-parent brain unable and unwilling to dive any deeper than that. He tickles Alya’s tummy and is rewarded with a gummy smile. “Definitely adorable alright.”

Because I wrote Fitz and his mum so it’s only fair Jemma gets a reunion with hers as well! This was hard to write but I’m so happy it’s finally finished. I hope you enjoy 💕

Summary:

“What I’m saying, Jemma,” her mother says as she stirs some sugar into her tea, “is that I don’t quite understand why you had to keep it a secret all of these years.”

Jemma takes a sip of her own tea, which her mum still makes exactly how she likes it without asking, even though she hasn’t made it in years. “I thought I explained all of this on the phone,” she says patiently. “It wasn’t a secret, not exactly.”

“What I’m saying, Jemma,” her mother says as she stirs some sugar into her tea, “is that I don’t quite understand why you had to keep it a secret all of these years.”

Jemma takes a sip of her own tea, which her mum still makes exactly how she likes it without asking, even though she hasn’t made it in years. “I thought I explained all of this on the phone,” she says patiently. “It wasn’t a secret, not exactly.”

She turns to Fitz who sits next to her at the kitchen table, Alya sitting on his knee whilst colouring in. They’ve been to see his mother, they did so nearly two weeks ago now, and though Jemma left them to it for their initial reunion, she can imagine quite well how Maggie Fitz reacted to the news. Her own parents are less outward with their feelings, but their indignation and hurt at being left in the dark isn’t any less real.

“It wasn’t that we didn’t want to tell you,” Fitz supplies, which is only fair as Jemma was the one who had to soothe his mother after their initial phone call. “It just wasn’t possible where we were.”

“In space!” Alya decides to helpfully shout at that moment, causing a hushed not right now, monkey from Fitz, who looks from Jemma to her parents with a nervous smile.

“Yes, in space,” Jemma clarifies, ignoring Fitz’s widened eyes, knowing that her parents won’t think to ask anything of it.

“It’s not often we get to go to nice places like this together.” Fitz looks around them, to the fairy lights draped across the ceiling and the white bouquets of flowers expertly places around the room. “Could get used to it.”

Jemma looks around them also, seeing immediately the beauty that he does, the fairy-tale dream of it all. She has been in many rooms similar to this one, for many of the same events, but never with him the way she is now. That, she thinks, makes all the difference.

“We go to nice places together,” she tells him. “We went camping not that long ago.”

He fixes her with a sardonic look. “First of all, camping with all those creepy crawlies and midges? Not nice. Second of all, I mean actually going to nice places. Coming out together, the both us. Not hiding from everyone else in the far corner of your Highland estate.”
