2019 isn’t messing around. We’re only 25 days in and I count four new albums that probably would have cracked my top 20 list from last year:

The self-titled and star-making debut from Toronto dream pop quartet Tallies;

Deerhunter‘s annihilation-pondering pop turn Why Hasn’t Everything Already Disappeared?;

Power Chords, Mike Krol‘s seething power pop opus (which dropped TODAY via Merge Records);

Onlyness (aka Rick Spataro) will be releasing his self-titled album on July 6 via Five Kill Records. Get a taste of the album with newest single “Somebody’s Son,” a melodic folk song that perfect captures a sense of mellowness. There’s a gorgeous soft rhythm to this song that has the feeling of simplicity and the simple pleasures of life. “Somebody’s Son” has a hint of nostalgia laced in the lyrics, almost like reminiscing the days when our responsibilities were at a bare minimum. While the song is two minutes long, Onlyness does tack on a quick 5 second outro that’s a little bit snazzy.
