Don't get ripped off! Bike related
To all my friends in the greater los Angeles area! if your ever on a double flat or you just need a quick tune up and don't have the tools or the know how to do it yourself! don't go to the bike shop near Pico and Hauser!
Naturally if you ride bikes regularly you'll need the occasional new inter tube. The people who run that bike shop are known for charging ridiculous amounts because their the only bike shop in the area. Also the main worker a young white guy who's name escapes me at the moment, is a serious bike Nazi who won't hesitate to charge you 20 bucks to change your inter tube. which is a simple task that shouldn't cost more then 6 dollars at the most. Upon entering the shop I over heard him charging an elderly woman 55 dollars to tighten her seat and put air in her granddaughters tires, So i told the woman how simple the task was and did it for her free of charge. ( i carry a small tool bag and bike pump with me.) He didn't like that at all.
here's a general rule when shopping for bike parts, getting a tune up or anything bike related; the closer to the beach the more you'll spend! simple economics the nicer the area the higher the price.
it'll be in your best interest to shop by the usc area as there are 12 bike shops located from Normandie to Hoover between Washington and Adams. these shops, in my experiences have been the best priced both in parts and services. (do to competition between one another)
I personally stand by the bike shop nearest normandie and adams called LA CYCLES. The owner charges $11 for a full tune up with new inter tubes for both your back and front tire along with tightening your spokes, lubing your chain and removing any glass particles from your tire also patches if needed.
