“My name’s Jamie.” A Jamie/Brienne fanfic about what I really hope happens after 8x05
The sun shone brightly in his eyes as the bottom of the rowboat scraped against soft, sandy beach. The turquoise water glistened in the sun, reminding Jamie Lannister of a certain pair of blue eyes that he used to gaze into. It had been four years since he’d seen those eyes. Four years of him healing from the injuries that had nearly killed his body, but also the guilt that had nearly killed his spirit. As he said his goodbyes to the sailors who dropped him off, he heard the clop, clop of a horse’s hooves against the sand. He turned towards the sound, squinting into the sun. A little boy with platinum blond hair sat on a pony, looking at him with skeptical eyes. Jamie smiles softly at the boy.
“Hello there, young sir, where are you headed?” He asked politely. The little boy chewed his lip, then answered, “My mummy saw the ship. She didn’t let me come down here, so I snuck away.” He puffed out his little chest at this declaration. Jamie laughed at this. He’d always loved the unshakeable confidence of children. He’d been like that as a boy too. Just then, a horse galloped over the hills onto the beach, ridden by a woman in a simple blue dress. Jamie’s breath caught in his throat. There before him was Brienne, her blond hair crowned in a halo of sunlight. Despite society’s belief otherwise, Jamie had always felt that Brienne was the most beautiful woman in Westeros.
“You came to Tarth.” Brienne’s voice cut through his shock. She said it as a statement, but he knew her well enough to know it was more of a question. Jamie hung his head in shame,
“I’m so sorry Brienne. I was stupid. I left you, the woman I love. I didn’t think you’d want me. Plus, I was nearly dead for the better part of a year.” He looked up at her sheepishly. “I’m sure you heard.” Brienne kept her face neutral, but he could see her turquoise eyes brim with tears. She held his gaze, her eyes full of pain
“Of course I heard. And I didn’t want you, we needed you.” Jamie’s face exploded into a smile, then Brienne’s words fully registered. We needed you. He slowly turned, looking at the little boy.
“What’s your name?” He asked, his voice cracking with emotion.
The little boy looked at his face, lifted his chin and answered proudly, “Jamie. My name’s Jamie.”
