Nostalgia. Release article for the DR30 Nissan Skyline RS Turbo from a Nissan Prince newsletter.
The strongest skyline in history.
The RS Turbo arrives with an unprecedented 190 horsepower.
Ten years after the GT-R, the most powerful machine in Skyline history has been born.
A 4-valve DOHC turbo engine. Dedicated only to those who truly love cars.
4 VALVE DOHC
RS-TURBO
190ps, 10.2km/l
(10-mode fuel efficiency / Ministry of Transport certified value)
Shinichiro Sakurai (designer)
The Skyline's fundamental principle is to pursue the best possible performance within the 2-liter, 5-number vehicle category, and we believe this RS Turbo is one testament to our challenge to those limits. Essentially, it wasn't about simply turbocharging; we wanted to turbocharge without sacrificing the responsiveness of the 4-valve DOHC engine—in other words, we wanted to break the conventional wisdom surrounding turbos with this car. As you'll see when you drive it, there should be almost no turbo lag, and we've put particular effort into tuning the suspension and clutch/brake capacity to match this level of power. It's a very fun car to drive, and we're really looking forward to the reactions from our truly discerning customers.
The roar of the RS Turbo filled Fuji Speedway.
On a clear day at Fuji Speedway,
the most powerful super-machine in Skyline history, a 4-valve DOHC turbo, made its appearance.
Within the 2-liter range, pursuing potential,
the RS Turbo with a maximum output of 190ps
under the watchful eye of its designer, Shinichiro Sakurai,
the Super Silhouette was divine
190ps. The RS Turbo, the most powerful and fastest domestically produced car, makes its debut.
2L, 150hp, 4-valve DOHC. The Skyline caused a huge sensation with it's FJ20. A turbocharger was fitted to that engine. A super-powered machine that surpasses the GT-R was born. Maximum output 190ps/6400rpm, Maximum torque 23.0 kgm/4800 rpm
Weight-to-power ratio 6.1kg/ps, , an incredible power output of 95.5ps/ℓ per liter, resulting in a rapid power-up from 0 to 400m in 15.5 seconds.
To match its overwhelming power, it features large four-wheel disc brakes, reinforced shock absorbers
and other suspension tuning including stabilizers.
The steering response has also improved thanks to the installation of the 60 Series tyres
With increased torque, the sharpness of acceleration, power, and high-speed performance
are unlike anything previously experienced in Japanese cars.
Fuel efficiency is also an astonishing 10.2 km/liter (10-mode).
The Skyline RS Turbo has been further refined.
We recommend this to those who truly love cars.
Masahiro Hasemi (Racing Driver)
A powerful 190 horsepower. Despite this power, the front and rear are well-balanced, making the car stable. I don't think there's any other car besides the RS Turbo that can take the final corner at Fuji Speedway at 180 km/h.
Kunimitsu Takahashi (racing driver)
Simply superb. The well-regarded FJ20 engine, now equipped with a turbocharger, is even more powerful, and this balance between the engine and the driver creates a great sense of stability. It's a safe car with excellent handling and a smooth ride.
Test runs were conducted by two drivers: Masahiro Hasemi, who is reviving the story, and Kunimitsu Takahashi, one of the samurai who achieved an unbroken 50-race winning streak with the GT-R. After completing several test laps and entering the pit, the drivers commented, "With the addition of a turbocharger to the already powerful FJ20 engine, the torque has increased, making it literally the strongest machine. The engine and suspension are matched at a high level, resulting in an even better balance and a strong sense of stability. It's easy to drive, the handling is smooth, and it's a car that's very rewarding to drive.
