i'm going to mix these around a little, so that #7 is the last one and can be put under a readmore, just so it can be more easily skipped by those who don't wish to see it`D`;
truthfully, i sort of imagine he doesn't have any friends outside natoru or the king, and even they're more coworkers. as i've said before, he's not very open with the king despite the fact they're relatively close otherwise, and the cat king shares literally Everything with him, and he doesn't consider him a confidante or someone to lean on, aha. natoru i do imagine he's more casual with when compared to the king, but she also does not fit the bill of confidante or support
there are plenty of other servants and staff and so on that he interacts with, and amiably, on a daily basis, but i don't feel he'd consider any of them friends, and he would not confide in them
and i think on a day-to-day basis, this surface-level but overtly cordial and amiable interaction is generally Enough for him to feel socially fulfilled. however, it's quite a different story when he's stressed or when he could really use an understanding ear, bc there is no one in his life that he feels comfortable with bringing All of his issues to, no matter their nature
everyone he knows is on different rungs of the ladder-- he doesn't share hardly Anything with the king. what he doesn't say to the king, he will say to lune, and what he won't say to lune, he will share with natoru, and what he won't share with her, the final rung of Trust contains his sisters. but, when it's something he wouldn't bring up to either of them, well. that's It. they're the ones he's the most open with, and if he can't share whatever is troubling him with them, then he can't share it with anyone, and that’s where he tends to feel the true constraints of his limited social circle rip
..........the one thing i can think of is Panicking bc the king is about to make an ass of himself or ruin some diplomatic relationship or Something natori has spent a buttload of effort to cultivate fjifeoa
generally he's a very nervous, nonconfrontational sort-- although he has the experience and the attitude to sort out disputes and has little issue with playing the stern arbiter, he's not so sure-footed or assertive when it comes to trying to corral those he sees as having some form of authority over him (rightfully or not). bc of that, his instinct is much more to yield to those individuals/groups and keep his head down
and even in cases where he is put in the position to reprimand someone as a supervisor to them or otherwise Ask For The Manager in some way if you will lmao, he prefers to keep those confrontations quiet, as private as possible, and civil
yet every now and then, when panic or New Situations overrides his rational mind, you get his behavior in canon lmao-- when composure becomes a Thing Of The Past rip
