Hey, why didn't they promo enough on HS1, or rather as much as on HS2? Didn't Jeff have money that times? He had. Why were there so many promo, commercials, shootings and so on in Fine Line Era but not HS1?
hi! jeff is not the one putting money into promo. the promo budget always comes from the label, in this case Columbia. I don’t really know why they did not promote HS1 as much, maybe bc it was not as radio-friendly, maybe because they thought harry’s fandom would do all the heavy-lifting, maybe because they thought the very little they did would be enough, maybe bc of robin’s passing they agreed to let harry “off the hook” and decided to not do promo for the other singles. 2017/hs1 era was a very obscure time tbh.
I think harry was not doing well in 2017 (mentally), his promo did not go well and long-time fans were not really happy. I think he struggled a lot with being alone and not have the boys to answer the questions he did not want to answer. he put a lot of pressure on himself and I’m sure his label did too. before his release the media was already comparing him to jagger/bowie/mercury, etc... which is a lot of pressure to put on someone. After this very short promo season he also had dunkirk to promote so maybe his team thought that would help promoting the album as well. then I believe he just wanted to go on tour. I think harry prefers to share his music with fans and let the performance/song do the talking than answering questions from interviewer who mostly don’t care about him as an artist.
After tour, harry knew what fans wanted and it probably helped his confidence. he decided to do an album that was more “him”. After seeing how much money tour made and how fans reacted to “real” harry columbia probably decided to give harry a bit more freedom and to put more money on his promo. they also focussed more on streaming while with hs1 the went the “old way” which was not very smart.
