Some of the proposed new New Zealand flags
Florida’s Flag is Not Good
It’s just Alabama but worse
Alabama has its faults (its many, MANY faults), but its flag is Choice™.
It’s simple, it’s iconic, it looks like the kind of flag ancient civilizations would have adopted, like the Romans would have used a flag like this; it looks like its flag maker was able to snag a Canon Flag, they got the simplest one before anyone else could, they didn’t need to add seals or words or other colors, no numbers or special characters or hyphens. It’s like the Nordic Crosses, or one of the many tricolors, just an all around classic flag.
It looks identical to Saint Patrick’s Cross, but it’s actually a simplified version of the flag of Burgundy (San Andres’ Cross), which Alabama and Florida kept in recognition of Spain’s colonization of the area.
Alabama adopted theirs in 1895, Florida followed suit in 1900.
I say it’s high time we had a referendum to design a new flag, something that isn’t just ripping off Alabama (you know your state sucks when it rips off an already sucky state). We need something that highlights out individualistic nature; we’re part of the south, but we’re not part of The South™. We go our own way, we do our own thing.
So, what are some Florida things? We’ve got oranges, gators, flamingos, no income tax, manatees, swamps the Everglades, sea turtles, coconuts, beautiful beaches, coasts on three sides. We need something tropical, something colorful, something that really speaks Floridian. We’re loud and obnoxious, and we make it your problem; that’s just who we are, and we need a flag to show it.
In terms of instant recognition, we could use a flag like Texas
Now that’s a flag! That’s iconic, everyone recognizes and respects it. It’s simple, but evocative. Everyone wishes they had a flag like this (North Carolina’s is just Texas but worse). This is easily Top 3 of all the state flags, probably THE best. It looks like a national flag; if Texas were independent, this would not look out of place hanging in front of the United Nations. It’s part of the Texas identity.
What’s the Florida identity? “Alabama but worse?” I sure hope not.
Why New Zealand Kept Their Flag
Yes, we wasted $16 million but we saved $26 million, that was our goal. Many people liked the new flag and obviously majority agreed that a new flag would be a waste of money.
New Zealand has a house shortage, and people are struggling financially to live anywhere.
Christchurch is still in the process of repairs from the 2011 Earthquake disaster
Many children are suffering from poverty and people want to put money towards lunches in schools
For those who fought in war associated with this flag and we should have as much pride as they did for the flag
To repair Wellington’s flood zones would save further damage New Zealanders want to focus on real issues and spent the money we have to create a better society that will benefit us. Who cares if we look similar to Australia, to shock you all New Zealand has had their current flag longer than Australia.
Fucking knew the flag would stay the same. Good job John Key. 26 million down the drain
Yasss! Good job New Zealand! 🇳🇿🇳🇿🇳🇿
For the first time ever my FB feed is making me roll my eyes. Bloody flag referendum.
