They were both vulnerable.
This was the second time Fefnir had mysteriously turned human. The first time he had changed back, the ex-Guardian had given Atlas his coat. The woman had kept it ever since, until a year later, he had turned again.
This time, however, he had been stuck as a human for almost a month.
It certainly wasn’t as chaotic as the last time he had turned into a human, as this time Atlas knew who he was and what had happened, though neither had expected the magic to last as long as it had. Since it seemed to be lasting longer, the now human male and Atlas went out and about in a more relaxed fashion.
They had gone to cafe’s, shared food together, slept in the same bed, and before they knew it, they were behaving either like the closest of friends that both of them knew each other to be as partners, or… something more.
Often times when they went out together, most thought that they were a couple. Both of them, of course, denied this.
Fefnir, for one, had no intentions of ever, ever, having a romantic partner in life or death.
But he was all but surprised to find that humans, though he knew were more complicated with the added hormones and whatnot in their systems to make things more interesting, being one was a whole other ballgame.
So it was that he had found himself in the later hours of the evening, sitting on Atlas’ bed and getting ready for sleep when they had… talked.
About themselves, the situation… things that Fefnir thought they had already solved.
It had turned into raised voices on her behalf, and the human male could not fathom just what her problem was. Why was she blushing? Why was she trembling in frustration?
And that was when he found her pressed against his chest.
Her scent was the first thing he noticed. Fresh from the shower and smelling of soap. Her hair was still a little damp.
He could feel her chest pressed against his own, now that she was out of those infernal bodysuits he loathed. It took Fefnir a moment to put his arms around her.
Why was he delaying? Why was he suddenly noticing things about her… body… that before as a reploid he would’ve only taken notice of as something of admiration.
Her muscular stature, her feminine frame… normally he’d just see her as a fine example of the human form and leave it at that.
She was far too close. He had to let her go.
Just as he was about to, that’s when the whispered words hit his ears, and his eyes widened before he looked down at her. He was met with her pink eyes, and it seemed like a lot of the current thoughts raging through his mind must’ve been somewhat similar to herself.
He could see it in her eyes. The confusion, the frustration, the… fear… and the… longing?
But he was always there. Always around her. Always cheerful and always willing to guide and speak to her. Being human hadn’t changed that.
But now… he really did realise just how vulnerable they really both were. The emotions were raw and the former Guardian was confused by them. The urge to do what Atlas had just asked him to do was… frighteningly strong.
Other than friendly pecks on the cheek, the urge to do more had never struck him. But with human emotions and human hormones adding to the mix of their already very strong relationship…
Fefnir found it hard pressed to really refuse.
He’d never kissed a human before, not on the lips, at least. He’d never kissed a reploid before, either. He hoped he got it right…
The human hesitated after he lifted his hand to cup her face. Was this really the right thing to do? Was this really okay? Normally, he did whatever Atlas asked him unless it was against his own personal beliefs… this was the realm of the unknown for him. He didn’t exactly have any rules about romance other than it was something he wanted to stay well and truly away from.
But he was human… Atlas was someone he, at this point, trusted.
Could he trust her with his heart? Was a kiss really that big of a deal?
After a moment’s hesitation, he cupped her face gently. He leaned down and for a moment, they stared at one another. Red on magenta… it was a pretty colour.
They both closed their eyes in unison as they surrendered to their hidden desires.
