Brightfur, ex-medicine cat of ShadowClan, now warrior. Daughter of Birchpaw and Smokestripe. Sister to Darkkit, Berrypaw, Brackenclaw, and Flametuft.
Brightfur’s father, Birchpaw, died before she was born, and her mother, Smokestripe, was still an apprentice when she had her littler.
Her troubles started young. Her sickly brother, Darkkit, died at around two moons. It was this stroke of bad luck that caught the eye of the current medicine cat, Ravenwind. She saw great potential in Brightkit, who was very passionate about taking care of others. Ravenwind’s current apprentice, Flowerpaw, suffered an accident not long before Brightkit was six moons old, and was given to Ravenwind.
But, as Brightfur grew older and wiser, she soon realized that Ravenwind was not what she seemed. The old molly was cold inside. She would do anything to protect what she viewed as the perfect ShadowClan- strong, brave, and Clan-blood only. Even kill for it.
Brightpaw asked her if Flowerpaw had been an accident, or if she had been purposefully pushed into the fast-running water to drown, and Ravenwind explained that she hadn’t been as good a candidate as her. When Brightpaw went to her sister, Berrypaw, for help, Ravenwind murdered her before she could do anything, then used the threat of harming her few surviving siblings to keep her in line.
Things grew quiet for two seasons afterwards. Brightfur lived in constant fear of Ravenwind, who groomed her to assume her role as StarClan’s guide, forcing her to help give poisoned prey to her sickly grandfather, Alderstar. But then, not long as her brother, Brackenclaw, received his first apprentice, Brightfur realized he was in love with a rogue named Blue. Brightfur, terrified of Ravenwind discovering it, tried to chase Blue off, but was stopped by Brackenclaw’s apprentice, Cloudpaw, who was supportive of the relationship.
Blue moved into camp and had Brackenclaw’s kits. About a moon or so later, they went missing, with Brightfur finding Ravenwind standing over them. In a fit of rage and pent-up desperation, she killed Ravenwind in self-defense. Out of Blue and Brackenclaw’s kits, only one survived the ordeal. Brackenclaw never forgave her for it.
Brightfur was extremely disillusioned with being a medicine cat at that point, but she hung on long enough to train an apprentice before quitting. After Flametuft was killed by accident (the two siblings looked almost exactly alike), Brightfur set her paws onto the path of a warrior.
As a warrior apprentice, Brightfur is like a group mom to a bunch of rowdy teenagers, helping them cause chaos. It’s not uncommon to see her trailing after the ‘paws, keeping them safe from danger. She’s not very talkative about herself, preferring to let actions speak instead of words. She comes across as mostly unflappable, but the smell of deathberries sends her into a panic, as well as rushing water.
