In Flanders Fields
In Flanders Fields
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie, In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields.
By John McCrae
Rememberance Day, Sunday 11th November 2018
If you live in Britain just like me (the date- Saturday 10th November 2018), Remeberance day is only a day away. Unfortunately, I will be doing black smithing on that day, but fortunately, I will either be back at home before 11 o'clock (as I will be at Alcumlow Farm/ really beautiful there - do recommend that you visit their with family or friends as it a really worth while visit, best part about it is the ice cream!) or I will be carrying out the 5 minute silence when I am black smithing. Remembering the fallen in all the wars is really important to me as during WWI, I had 3 great, great, great grandfathers who all died; two were missing in action and was shot dead by the Germans because he was too tall for the trenches and that made him an easy target, even when there wasn't any fighting. Sometimes I wonder what it was like to be risking your lives for your country until you either killed or when war ends. It makes me feel sorry for those who saw the comrades being killed right infront of them. It makes me feel sorry for those who lacked equipment to protect them from harmful gases. It makes me feel sorry for those who did not live a long and happy life. It makes me feel sorry for those scarred (mentally or physically) with the pains of their past. It makes me feel sorry for those decieved about what war was actually like. It makes me feel sorry for families who have lost their loved ones. I have always been considerate of those who have lost loved ones and sometimes it makes me cry when I realise how young people were when they died and the fact that they never saw their families again and will never live a happy life. I visited the National Arboretum in England and learning about all of the effort that was put in by everybody during those hard periods of time makes me fell proud to be British. It makes me feel proud of all the others countries such as America and France about all their efforts all put in together to stand strong and unite as one. Some people think that remembering the past is useless, but it helps us remember what people did back then and the determination they all had. Rememberance Day isn't just about the first and second world wars, but all of the wars that had been fought through all around history. It is good to remember those from previous lives as it makes you feel proud of the people who fight/ fought for you and your country. Lest We Forget.
If you see this, please repost for others to see and so this can be a reminder for everyone of those who have died so that we can live the way we live today. For our freedom and our rights. For our families, friends and everyone else around us. For the food we eat and the water we drink. For the clothes we wear. For everything.
We take time out of our day today to Remember. Further proof that there's an origami fold for every occasion. Do you need a poppy for the parade today? #poppy #memorialday
