Hard to Read presents “Angels Flight: Readings on Voice” with Sadaf H. Nava, Ser Brandon-Castro Serpas, Flannery Silva, and Nour Mobarak Tuesday October 10 at 7pm in the Lobby Lounge of the Standard DTLA 550 S. Flower Street

The historic Angels Flight railway, on South Grand in Downtown LA, just reopened for public service, in time for two blessed artists’ arrival. Sadaf H. Nava, a New York-based Iranian-Canadian musician and multimedia artist, is passing through post-tour. While Ser Brandon-Castro Serpas—artist, activist, writer—is returning to her home in Boyle Heights. Sadaf and Ser will be joined by artist/musician Flannery Silva (of Odwalla 1221) and artist, voiceover artist, and poet Nour Mobarak, for a reading on voice. As in having one, performing, politics, range (rage?).

We'll be debuting a new poetry zine by Sadaf, as well as a poetry book illustrated by Ser Serpas. Merchandize by other artists will be available for sale, with a portion of proceeds going to Girls Write Now, a foundation that, “mentors underserved young women to find their voices through the power of writing and community.”

Organized and hosted by Fiona Alison Duncan—who just likes how “Angels Flight” sounds—this is part of the Standard’s monthly lit series, Hard to Read.
