3. it depends on the orchestration; i’ve never had saxophone in an orchestra like, full-time, but i have played a few pieces that had a sax part written. Pictures at an Exhibition has a REALLY COOL tenor sax solo. Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet suite, Ravel’s Bolero, Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, and Bernstein’s On the Waterfront all had a sax part of some kind. i’m sure there are others! but like i said, i’ve only seen saxes in orchestras when the piece called for one.
