Dive into the surreal world of Flash Amazonas
After Guillermo del Toro’s liquid love story The Shape Of Water (or ‘Grinding Nemo’ as some comedians on Twitter have termed it) won the Oscar for Best Picture, it seems the time is right for Flash Amazonas to swim into your heart. Described with tongues in cheeks as the “hottest band in the Japanese / Colombian Bolero scene”, the duo’s funky new single ‘Agua’ is an underwater adventure every bit as diverting as del Toro’s creation.
And that’s before you even get to the video, a truly surreal 8-bit carnival featuring a telepathic space goat, a hypnotised blowfish and a heroic cast of iconic Colombian footballers. Frankly, any video that ends with René Higuita doing scorpion kicks in a deep sea disco is alright by us.
Flash Amazonas formed when Julián Mayorga and Ryota Miyake met at 2016’s Red Bull Music Academy in Montreal, with the pair cementing their musical bond via a long-distance working relationship. The resulting debut album is currently being prepped for release on Spanish label Discos Walden – keep those peepers peeled…
