the question isn’t unexpected, but it’s certainly unwanted. kuruk doesn’t want to have to explain himself. he doesn’t want to have another person judge him for not measuring up. for not being the knight he’s supposed to be by now. surely with all of their training, with the drills and the practice and every single moment of preparation, he should be able to handle this by now. right? surely he should be better than this.
he’s fully expecting cal to remind him of that. the man is the one who’s gone through so much to train him, to get him up to scratch. he got the job done, the mission was completed, but it should have been better. cleaner. and he shouldn’t be in this state.
“does it matter? i got the job done.” he grumbles softly, clasping his hands behind his back. it was unavoidable really. someone was bound to notice eventually. helmets might be worn at all times out there, but in here.. it’s not quite the same. logically... logically, he knows cal won’t punish kuruk for these injuries. the man is... the biggest support kuruk has here. but the knights are expected to hold a certain standard. and kuruk knows what usually comes when they don’t reach those. “i’ll need to have my helmet repaired, or replaced.” he adds, as if that’s going to explain what actually happened.
