Tips & Tricks of Filmmaking (according to experience from a past film student in a pretty esteemed program):
Put it in black and white. Instant art. Sepia is acceptably if you add grain.
Who cares about clean cuts or subtle crossfading? When you additive fade two scenes together for like, 20 seconds, it’s BEAUTIFUL
The less shots, the better. You can and SHOULD have long shots of one stationary thing for a full 5 minutes. Honestly, that’s the problem with people and movies in the modern age they don’t have an attention span and need constant cuts blah blah blah I’m so pretentious
Sound effects? Dialog? Music? HAH. Ambient noise is all you need, my friend. Hear those birds and the buzzing of the lights? Perfect.
Make it a metaphor but for something you don’t have any experience with. Spice it up with a focus on the mentally ill because lol it’s edgy and who the fuck needs queer people or people of color when you can highlight their struggles using straight white people am I right???
More seriously: DO NOT ARGUE WITH THE WHITE BOYS. DO NOT CRITIQUE THE MATERIAL THEY STROKE AS THEY FALL ASLEEP EVERY DAY, DO NOT DEBATE A DIFFERENT READING OF A SCENE, AND DO NOT CALL THEM OUT FOR USING SLURS (ESPECIALLY GENDERED ONES) OR BEING OFFENSIVE IN GENERAL. THEY ARE A HIVE MIND OF SAPIOSEXUALS IN THIS ARENA. THEY WILL ATTACK.
