Curse Broken
Written for @flashfictionfridayofficial #294 prompt: Cursed Trio. Trigger warning for Child Abuse
Secrets. It had to be kept secret. "Don't tell grandma. It will upset her." Did she tell when Grandpa touched her? Did Grandma react badly? Is that why she told me this? Would it have made a difference later had those secrets been revealed?
Would she have been a better parent, able to protect her own child from abuse if she wasn't carrying this curse of buried abuse, like her mom did before her? She doesn't know. What she does know is it ends here. Her own babies are where family curses come to die. The reality of their abuse won't be hidden away. It will be spoken about, let into the light where darkness dies. Her grandbabies will not suffer the same. This is her solemn vow!
