I was wondering if you have any songs that you associate with ScarBat and FlashJack? Or with each character separately.
Recently while listening "Hymn for a Scarecrow – Tally Hall" I'm ummm..... THOUGHT ABOUT THE SCARECROW AHAH(I even wanted to make an animation for the song)
welp, i certainly have some tracks which make me think about them! but i have to warn, that my taste in music is rather unsystematic. so there are a few different genres mixed together in this.
*an’ oooh, i know this song! youtube recommended it to me around a week ago, ironically enough. an’ animation you say! i hope you’ll get around to it. i would love to see what you imagined while listening to that song. it has such a peaceful charm to it!*
as for my own contribution to the topic, inside my mind eye scarebat an’ flashjack could share quite a few songs, since the core of their relationships are similar. as well, as the fact that both pairs represent a hero *well, flash is more of anti-hero* an’ a villain, who serves as their most notable mirror image.
my first pick for both of them always gonna be:
🎵 Blonde Redhead - For the damaged + coda, it feels like their kind of song. fits both of the dynamics an’ fits all the characters involved. i even made a redraw + collage for it at one point, just bc in my mind it’s like ideally in sync with certain canonical elements. an’ just ideal parallels between both pairs.
🎵 Summer Camp - I want you, the classic of most ships, which have obsession / obsessive behaviour as it’s center. so many dreamy, twisted an’ fluffy bits in just one song.
🎵 Little V - Thriller, cover of an old song, which most folks prob heard at least once. it’s funky little smth an’ it mostly works well with scarecrow’s an’ jack’s shared halloween gimmick, as well, with them perversing themselves as spooky creatures of the night. this line 'Cause I can thrill you more than any ghoul would ever dare try', says it all, haha.
🎵 Blonde Redhead - Doll Is Mine, another song which feels to be more of pov of jack an’ jon, since it does begin with literal, ‘mine is an act of love. mine is a wish to solve’, an’ considering how those two have no ways to deal with their feelings in normal ways, nor their feelings are ‘normal’ per say, this just adds to, ‘I must say this love hasn't changed me’, an’ finishing with ‘It isn't true that things do change. Isn't it strange how pain remains. But don't look so sad 'cause it isn't sad. Now that I have you to myself’. after all the pains an' bads an' scares, there is finally smth good to have. smth to dig your claws into an' never let go.
🎵 Animotion - Obsession, another old catchy song about well, an everlasting, obsessive an’ all consuming kind of love. ‘My fantasy has turned to madness’ prob describes it best. esp bc both jon an’ jack despite all their sentiments are still serial killers.
🎵 Groove Coverage - Poison (Rock The Radio Mix), gotta love how those types of songs have the most 'packing' lyrics at times lol.
🎵 MUSE - YOU MAKE ME FEEL LIKE IT'S HALLOWEEN, pretty straightforward one, even if still somewhat playful.
if we go more separately for each ship, i tend to think about flashjack, when i listen to these few songs :
🎵 Tove Lo - Borderline, pretty much the whole song fits into describing jack’s habit to provoke flash, an’ clearly wishing for some sort of extreme in their relationships. as well as flash pretty much giving into it as well, be it due to rage or other things.
🎵 Armchair Cynics - Bang, those guys surely will have a lot of heated moments, which would lead to smth of a different nature, than them figthing. the comparison between loaded gun an' aggressive attraction was never more catchy.
🎵 Bella Poarch - Villain, i feel like jack will always to a degree fuck with flash’s head, just bc that’s the way he is. he just cannot help himself, but tease an’ push flash’s buttons. i mean, one can’t blame the guy for bullying his crush, right?
🎵 Limp Bizkit - Eat You Alive, raw song about raw things *lust* kinda creepy in a way too, an’ i imagine, that this really plays into jack’s serial killer’s nature an’ the fact, that he has tunnel vision. i also love the slight self-awareness of the lyrics too, along with the obsessive, ‘Once you seep in under my skin, there's nothing, there's nothing in this world that could wash you away’.
🎵 In this Moment - Sick Like Me, the deadly kind of passion indeed, esp bc jack at times really hoovers a bit too close to the sun. 'Is it sick of me to feed the animal in you? Is it sick to say I tease the hunter like I do? Is it sick of me to watch the wicked way you thrill?' this one is pretty self-explanatory.
now, after this lil rock concert, it's scarebat turn. or rather a mix between scarecrow/batman an' scarecrow/bruce wayne, bc i always feel like jon be more openly pushy an' creepy toward batman's unmasked persona vs when he faces him as vigilante. so the tones of songs will depends on this bit to some degree.
🎵 Alone in My Room - Darling, mmm, a pure macabre here. jon getting hang up on that strange handsome jock, an' not being able to behave properly for longer than a few minutes. go figure lol.
🎵 I DONT KNOW HOW BUT THEY FOUND ME - Mx. Sinister, similar creepish, stalkery lyrics here, esp bc jonathan indeed would dissolve himself from any blame, if he happened to be a bit too forward with bruce or the bat. totally, it’s their fault for making him act like that.
🎵 Mr. Kitty - Destruction Of Us (Slowed & Reverb), i really love how the slowed down version lets you hear all the musical bits, which you might not make out, when you listen to it at normal speed. but alas, original works too. since it’s all about the lyrics in the end. this one is mostly dealing with the struggles, power imbalance an’ general narrative of push an’ pull. it’s one of those songs, which gives you ‘two’ sides of the narrative as well. there is also some adult-ish context within it as well. so there is that.
🎵 Kyla la Grange - Vampire Smile, sounds like a low-key love letter from scarecrow to batman tbh. even the beginning of the song, ‘'Cause I'm getting drunk on your noble deeds’ an’ ‘I want a scar that looks just like you, 'til then I gotta learn to be a wiser fool’ screams of it. that's so bookish almost.
🎵 Jonathan Young - Hellfire, some of the lyrics just hit the spot. esp that borderline on resentment desire an’ also need to shift the blame, yet possess the object of desire. *this feels true with akrhamverse two the most, but tbh, comicverse an' BTAS jonathan can easily hit the same extremes*
as for songs, which make me think about each character on their own. admittingly, flash an’ bruce are harder to place here. like separately. so i’d go with 🎵 Mareux - The Perfect Girl (Retrowave Remix) for batman. as well as, 🎵 Miguel Angeles - Protection Charm (Hard Slowed + Reverb), for flash.
their little spoopy mates have more direct songs. starting with scarecrow.
🎵 Harley Poe - Homicidal Maniac, fits jonathan’s backstory to a T. like, that’s literally his song from start to finish. an’ in general, harley poe knows how to write lyrics, which would make you think about fictional serial killers lol.
🎵 Islands - I feel evil creeping in, almost feels like a continuation to that first song. esp since crane did pretty much dispose of anyone, who stood in his way later down the line.
🎵 Cyberbully Mom Club - Nightmares, a more gentle nudge toward jon’s exposure to his own toxins an’ how he essentially scared of literally almost everything on main, even without breathing in the toxic fumes. poor lil creature forever cursed with terror. if only he had some noble, handsome hero to comfort him.
in comparison, jack is out there being a bit more plainly murderous, rather than wanting revenge. but alas, poor thing hurtin' in his own ways.
🎵 Velvet Revolver - Psycho Killer, ever since i heard this song, i feel like it conveys pretty well how one might feel, when they aren’t right in head in that specific way. there isn’t any direction with it, an’ it remind me about some of jack’s actions. disjointed an’ dangerously random.
🎵 AJJ - Cody's Theme, this mostly fits with my hc about jack having schizophrenia or at least, a mental illness which is very similar to it. pretty much inability to control impulses, mixing fantasy with reality an’ then, how others around him reacted to jack being like this. an' i mean, ‘Meanwhile, on another plane, I was the king of pain and unspeakable cruelty. I set the mommy on fire, I set the baby on fire. Not even Jesus could stop me’, kinda does sound like him.
🎵 A Perfect Circle - Pet, a perfect sum up of jack’s an’ the crime master’s messed up relationships. ‘Pay no mind what other voices say. They don't care about you, like I do. Safe from pain and truth and choice and other poison devils. See, they don't give a fuck about you, like I do’ sounds exactly like the crime master’s way of manipulation. as well as ‘I'll be the one to protect you from your enemies and your choices, son. They're one and the same,’ the parent of the year right here.
also, here is a small bonus for both jon & jack team up. a lil smth for their horrible little friendship. 🎵 Kaiser Chiefs - My Kind Of Guy, this prob would fit most villain an' villain team ups tbh, but i still love how it would fit them so perfectly well too. 'You're my kind of guy cause I like your style and you sound as horrible as me. And I don't mind if you're unkind you're reminding me of me'. just imagine them going out to trick or threat together during the halloween. i actually wanted to write such a crossover fic last halloween, but oh well, maybe this years be the one
i’m not sure how well all of the above would match with your own preferences or if we even have a common ground on whatever the lyrics fit or not, but hopefully, this can be useful. i always feel a bit uh, shy to share what sort of music i’m listening to.
