Two seriously cool and rare #Gibson-made #flattops for #flattopfriday: 1929 Gibson #L1 and 1949 #Kalamazoo #KG1. Spotted at @folkwaymusic. The '29 L1 is one of the very earliest of this design, and was extensively restored by Mark at #FolkwayMusic, who invested about 100 hours of work into this #guitar. The work was so exacting, that even though the top was taken off completely, flattened out (it was seriously warped due to a very light build and the ravages of time!), and all the braces reglued (or new indistinguishable replicas fashioned and installed), that ALL of the original binding has been reinstalled completely intact and there was no need to #overspray anywhere...the finish is still 100% original. #Luthiers in the crowd will appreciate just how difficult this task would have been. The '49 Kalamazoo is not worth nearly as much as the L1, but I just love anything made under this, the most famous of the "other" brands of Gibson. Plus I had no idea that there were any guitars made under the Kalamazoo brand after the 1930s...I though KZO was only a Depression thing (although I was aware that Gibson did revive the brand for some budget Electric guitars in the 60s). Anyhoo: neat guitar! #guitars #gibsonguitars #vintageguitars #vintagegibsons #gibsonl1 #kalamazooguitars #vintagekalamazoo #guitarshop #guitarrepair #guitarphotography
