Olyvia's Interview!
Name: Olyvia Grace Ratliff
Age: 17 (born April 11, 1996)
Location: I am blessed to have homes in both Southern California and Washington state in the U.S.
Favorite shops: Thrift shops (specifically Buffalo Exchange, or the artsy ones on 4th Street in my hometown, Long Beach). I love eBay and also make or modify a lot of my own clothing. Whenever I’m looking for a new bag it’s almost always leather, vintage, and purchased on eBay! Haha! Free People, Sass and Bide, and just local boutiques in California have a lot of great stuff also— whenever I’m looking to seriously splurge or update my wardrobe I shop at those places!
Describe your style: Experimental! I’m always changing my look whether it be lots of leather and studs, minimalistic with pops of color, Levi’s cutoffs and a white tee, boyfriend jeans and Birkenstocks, long bohemian skirts and braids… it’s honestly constantly evolving. I definitely have my fallback styles but I like to mix things up. Vintage leather bags are the only things I keep similar typically. And I always try to have multiple textures in an outfit! That’s something Wes Klain taught me about at a shoot once and I’ve seriously taken it to heart.
What song describes your attitude? This is a hard one! I’d probably have to say Trapeze Swinger by Iron and Wine at this point in my life. The girl he describes in very much like me— young, a bit irresponsible and very opinionated, a huge risk-taker, but with gentle and endearing qualities… the song actually sounds like something a close friend or boyfriend would write about me. It’s how I envision others would describe me I suppose.
Biggest risk you’ve ever taken? I’ve made many risky decisions, but investing a few thousand dollars (all my Christmas money, birthday money, lots of my mom’s hard-earned money) to go to the modeling convention I got scouted at was probably the biggest risk I’ve made. Going there I didn’t think I would get any callbacks but I got callbacks from all but two agencies and was lucky to meet with tons of agents and make new contacts. It was a huge investment that paid off!
Do you have any quotes you live by? “Be silly. Be honest. Be kind." -Ralph Emerson
Chocolate or vanilla? Both!
What would be the perfect breakfast? A piece of toast (whole wheat/grain Dave’s Killer Bread) with avocado and a fried egg over-easy. Or just a big bowl of fresh fruit and a skinny nonfat chai latte! Ughhh yum!! <3 <3 <3
What film character do you relate to most? I can’t say there is a character who is exactly like me but I’ve been told I’m incredibly similar to Emma Watson’s character in Perks of Being a Wallflower! I actually watched the film online just because people kept telling me I was so similar to her and it peaked my curiosity. It makes a bit of sense— she’s outspoken, dramatic, flighty yet caring… I suppose I relate in those respects.
What’s your idea of a perfect day with your best friend? My best friend Hanna and I have had many almost perfect days but I guess a perfect day with her would be to wake up and go for a run together and then jump into her pool fully clothed, which is very typical of us (RIP white Nike free-runners). Then I’d run home to shower and once I got back she’d be half asleep and we would just take a nap. We’d then go to get fish tacos at a local place we love by the shore and we’d walk around and spend money we shouldn’t because we can’t resist a good day of shopping. We usually go down by the bay or beach then (since we live relatively close to the beach and only a block away from each other) and tan while drooling over lifeguards. We would both get digits from cute lifeguard lads and get invited to some type of party situation, preferably on a boat so we would go back to her house to get dolled up and then we would dance the night away with our hot lifeguards. Mind you, this is in a perfect world. Hahaha
