if you want to genuinely understand the ace is not inherently lgbt perspective, then you could go through jennyslateswife ace discourse tag. they're very informative, well educated on the topic and uses lots of sources to back up claims. Sometimes they can have an attitude but thats just because they have to answer the same question 1000 times (you dont have to publish this ask btw or do it obvs, its just a recommendation)

honestly anon thank u for the recommendation but i do not. i just kept seeing some posts that upset me and made a vent post. aroace discourse on the internet is not the hill i want to die on. i’ve been on a news blackout for about a year and i’m just trying to live on my own and work 40 hours a week with no friends without wanting to die ALL the time just maybe some of the time and its been working out okay so i’m staying away from things that might upset me

if het aro/ace or aroace people aren't queer then what are they? the former is straight and the latter is not straight but is not lgbt either. although aroace people arent str8, the lgbt community is not for ppl who are "not straight" its for people who experience homophobia (biphobia) and/or transphobia. that does not mean theyre not valid or dont deserve their own community. just theyre not lgbt. they have a community- the ace/aro community (1/2)

how is being straight & ace queer (a slur for gay & trans ppl)? a cishet ace man who is only romantically attracted to women, does not experience homophobia or transphobia, is not oppressed, could literally have sex with her (as sexual attraction is not the same as libido/needs/wanting closeness) but then calls himself lgbt? then factor in the subsets- a demisexual cishet man has to have a connection with a woman before he finds her sexually attractive? how is that lgbt? hes literally str8 (2/2)

i do see your point but the thing i don’t agree with is yes the concept of lgbt+ came about in the first place is because straight ppl made it a thing to oppress us because of who we are but it also came from pride of who we are and i don’t think its a good idea for a community to define itself by how it is oppressed but rather what makes it different and special from the norm pushed on us by media and society (and i mean that in the purest sense of romantic and sexual attraction between consenting adults none of that kink shit or whatever jesus). i know here on the internet we all love to talk about how we are oppressed but to overcome it we can’t wallow in it we must rise about it. which reminds me of a very good ani difranco lyric

but anyway i truly get where you are coming from honestly i’m on the fence about the topic of het aro/ace ppl being in the community myself, but also i think aroace ppl should be part of the community so i’m conflicted bc i have no logical reasoning for it. also i think the vitriol against the aroace community bc of some ppl on the internet saying thoughtless/hurtful shit is too much but maybe its bc i take it kinda personally bc there is no differentiating between het aroace ppl and queer aroace ppl

On your aro/ace discourse, I was thinking about that too. I'm aro/ace so my feelings for men and women are the same. Pretty much indifferent from the romantic sense and its never occurred to me to be with someone as more than friends. So i'm consistently like well I guess I'm pansexual since I view all genders the same. But then I am not sexually attracted to them so then where do I fit???? And as you mentioned if you're a hetero ace then you're attacked which is confusing.
